I don't think it's ridiculous to search a phone if there is reason to believe the phone was involved in a crime. It can provide really useful information like time frames and others potential involved with the crime.

Good Idea
I think if you are pulled over doing 20 in a 50mph speed zone and a cop sees a picture of you smoking weed in your gallery, it would help explain a lot of things. A general good rule of thumb if you don't do stupid things you won't get in trouble for it!
