is standardization a good thing?

My instinct tells me that standardization stifles innovation.

While everybody having to have the same charge port seems like a consumer win, does it mean that down the road a newer, better solution gets shelved in favor of "standard"?

I'm just asking.
I do agree that standardization is not always a good thing. In this case I feel that it is a good decision to cut down on waste because I don't see another solution that would be a better choice. In this matter, something as simple as a charger, I fee...

hmm

I'd love it if they agreed on the following:

Magnet charger (similar to Apple)
Built-in method for pad charging (no more replacing battery back doors)
That would be awesome. This seems like a good first step. A universal charger seems like it would make it easier to make a universal magnetic charger.

I hope magnetic/wireless charging never gets standardized.

if you had any idea how ridiculously inefficient and wasteful wireless charging schemes were, you'd agree, too.

Ugh I thought micro USB was supposed to be the universal charger. Now they are going to change it again?!? 🙄
It is MicroUSB. That is the standard.
No, it's as compatible as any micro-USB charger today.

The thing is, micro-USB chargers today are not as compatible as some people think. The same way an iPhone charger can't charge an iPad - even though they use the same connector - not all micro-...
