Courts Rule Employers Can Search Employee Text Messages
PUBLICLY ISSUES MOBILE PHONES (only)
Also, that it does not apply to private orginizations
Essentially, the best rule of thumb comes down to who paid for the phone and who is paying for the service.

All this means is that this ruling referred to public agencies. No ruling either way was made about private ones.

Trust me on this one. Private employers will eventually look to this ruling and make their point that they'll have a right to spy on peoples' use of company provided phones. That's why I want to avoid using a company provided phone as much as possible.
Look you can't take a company car and just joy ride it to Mexico and get ticked when they fire you for missusing company porperty.
I'm suprised companies haven't been caught using the gps on company phones to keep tabs on what the employees do on their off time. That would be the ultimate in BS.
This would be no different that that if an employer wanted to monitor the Cell Phone they issued and paid for.
The ruling does not apply to employees of private companies.
??? didn't you read the post?
