Yeah, it says 21mbps...but does that take into consideration the crappy coverage and reduction in speeds the customer's will have in said crappy service areas?
...
why keep building 3g. That technology will be inferior next year. wtf tmobile. aka trash mobile.
...
Actually with the VZW CEO stating that LTE will initially be limited to 8-12mbps T-Mobile 21.1mbps HSPA+ is looking really nice. Especially when HSPA+ can reach speeds of 42.2mbps and 84.4 using dual carriers. 3G still has quite a bit of life left.
...
Reguardless of speed 3G is absolutly useless if there is a data limit. With Clear there is NO evil data limit. I can actually USE their speeds without restrictions.

Probably the most incorrect comment ive ever read.

what i meant to say is. what do you mean by that?

I have had Clear WiMAX service for a month now, I have speeds that enable me to watch multimedia, Hulu, news clips and so on, each and every 3G carrier has an evil 5GB data limit, I would have hit 5gigs of data in 4 days with any of the 3G carriers based on my usage with Clear.
5gig data limit no matter what the speeds are will ruin the use experience for the consumer.
Clear is the only wireless company with unlimited data.
...
Sprint offers unlimited data usage if you are on the 4g network
...
Which I am, but with Clear, almost a month now and loving it! I've used over 36gb's of data, and Clear isn't a ripoff charging $60/mo like the big 4 carriers. I pay Clear $40/mo and it's well worth it.
...
...Jealous... âšī¸
That sure sounds nice.
...
Where do you live? Clear is expanind gradually.
...
That's because Sprint owns 51% of Clear

You're wrong there buddy. On tmobile once you hit 10GB you MAY see reduced speeds. So T-Mobile technically doesnt have a data limit. I used over 10GB one month and received a text from tmobile saying a may see reduced speeds, and I didn't. đ
...
Jay is correct. WiMax/Clear has no data cap and does not throttle down speeds. Just fast broadband, plain and simple at very low cost.
...

Not entirely correct. I am on an ATT plan for unlimited data at $15/month. Texting is not included (I think they charge 10 cents each for texting, not sure as I send less than 5 text messages each month). But I do pound data, gps, download emails with big attachments, etc etc. Probably not how many define data, but I get unlimited data (no texts) for $15/month. Really, it comes down to what you need as there is no one best plan.
...
What is incorrect about saying that data limits render 3G useless? Sure speeds may go up, but you can only get away with watching a tiny amount of Hulu before hitting that 5GB data limit.
...
Have you read reviews from Clearwire they are horrible. These are from people that actually use the service.
...
I use the service, I live in Las Vegas and have been a customer for 1 month now and am very happy. I can watch video without it buffering. News clips, and I watch lots of Hulu.
...
Once again, you are speculating on other individuals experiences without trying it yourself. It is appearent that you are a follower of bad rather than a leader of good. The high reviews greatly overshadow the complaints. Quit trying to diffuse a new technology without the proper merit. You obviously are an LTE advocate. What makes you think LTE will not have issues out of the gate? Jayshmay is proof of high regards toward WiMax/Clear.

The good thing about HSPA technology is it is upgradeable and since what average 4g has been projected as by sprint and Verizon HSPA+ will be way more 4G than Wimax or LTE and ahead of LTE when it does come out You dont think that 21mbps is 4G quality? What 3g network in america does 21mbps?
...
You are incorrect. the most you will see from HSPA+, is roughly 2-2.5Mps real world use. I am being generous with those speeds. HSPA is a bandaid for answering subscriber's complaints.
LTE is rated at 100Mps with 8-9Mps average in end user real world speeds. WiMax rated at 85Mps. 6-7Mps average real world.
...
The big difference is that HSPA+ is the upgraded upgraded version of W-CDMA, and it's still only rated at a max of 21 Mbps. LTE's initial offering may be limited to about 10 Mbps average, but future upgrades to that will see significant increases to throughput.

I don't know how many markets T-Mobile will have 3G before they go to 4G. They've been at a disadvantage for too long, and still at a disadvantage, due to 3G being in AWS, and they're the only carrier putting 3G in AWS on the GSM side. It's better to be late than never at 3G. My former co-worker is glad that T-Mobile has 3G, and decided to stay with T-Mobile. And yes, our area is 3G.
...
Well heck Tmo's 3G footprint can't be that small if they intend to have 200m covered by years end. Well over half the country.
...
They are moving and installing 3G faster than AT&T can think. That's the reason why Verizon is attacking AT&T's coverage with their commercial ads.
Verizon's network is fully 3G enabled. While AT&T still has EDGE-only areas. T-Mobile is in the same boat. But where T-Mobile has coverage, they are working for most people.
...
Seems as though ATT only cares about large metro areas and that's it. Really the only thing keeping ATT's subscriber base high is the Iphone. I've got a feeling these Verizon ads are going to damage ATTs repuation even more than it already is.
...
Much of what Verizon is calling 3G is not EVDO, If there was an apples to apples HSPA to EVDO coverage comparison then they would not look so dissimilar. 1XRTT can be called 3G but its data speeds are along the lines of EDGE. Verizon may have a map for that but it is not a true comparison. Also the Verizon map is showing roaming coverage as home coverage. There may not be a data agreement in all markets painted red by Verizon.
...
Hmm, maybe ATT has an argument after all.
...
T-Mobile doesn't have as much PCS 1900 spectrum as AT&T and Verizon. Plus, AT&T and Verizon have cellular 850 to help them. So they are working with near 100MHz of spectrum in many markets, and can afford to offer 3G on the 850/1900 bands. They have so much spectrum, that it won't hurt AT&T's GSM, and Verizon's CDMA network.
If a company tries to launch something with insufficient spectrum, their regular network can suffer.
You can't ask an OEM to make you hardware with a certain band, unless you have the rights to.
Problem with T-Mobile is that they never went after any carriers with 850 licenses. If they did, they might have had a good amount of 850/1900 license to launch 3G earlier. AT&T was the one going hard after smaller car...

...
One of the tragedies of the wireless industry is that the two biggest companies did not grow by adding subscribers in the marketplace like T-Mobile did (OK they did buy Aerial from TDS and Suncom which may have added a million customers) The big two have grown more from aquiring competitors than from the marketplace.
AT&T Bell South, AT&T Wireless, Ameritech, Pactel, Dobson, Centennial, McCaw
...
AT&T is upgrading their HSPA network slowly from 3.6 to 7.2. They said their upgrade won't be done until 2011. After that, then they will focus on LTE. Verizon is the one currently pushing to have LTE up and running by the end of this year, and into early 2010 fully.
T-Mobile's network is much younger than AT&T's network, so T-Mobile's network is easily upgradable out the box. AT&T has to change their hardware in more areas.
Plus, the main thing they will both need is the backhaul, which will allow the faster speeds. they need more fiber running to the cell sites, to make the HSPA+ worth it for them, and the customers.

Data limits render 3G useless, no matter how fast the speeds get, can't watch Hulu on a laptop with those evil data limits.
...
As speeds increase data caps will too. Just because its 3g doesnt mean its limited at 5gb. Cell carriers can raise it. I use 10gb + on my iPhone each month and at&t doesn't speak a word of it.
...
Before I got Clear I was using my Nokia N95 as a wifi hotspot and used almost as much data as you, but when it comes to watching video online the speeds just weren't sufficient.
...
Clear just launched in my area and it is really fast. Around here AT&T is fast enough to stream hulu and slingbox with ease.
...
Really? ATTs ?THAT? fast where you live? Where is this?
...
Greensboro North Carolina. Average speed is in the 1900kbps range Peak just under 3000kbps
...
That's with Att? WOW!
...
Yeah at&t is really good in the southeast. Probably because bellsouth built most of it đ
