New way to store...?

It's cool that they were able to restore the data, but I am wondering if they are going to find a way to store everything to the phone itself and just use the servers to back up the data...Seems like a smarter thing to do.
I still don't understand this Sidekick stuff, does the Sidekick not on board memory? Besides GSM phones have the ability to store contacts on the sim card.
