Root?

I know it's going to be a stupid question, but what does it mean when you root a phone? 😕
Rooting an Android phone opens its core functions that aren't available when you buy it. This allows you to install customer versions of Android (ROMs) or other abilities like saving apps to the SD card.

Were you able to root your phone last night?

Hero or Intercept

I just bought the hero at radio shack for 50 last sunday, but Im kinda thinking of getting the samsung intercept since the hero prolly WILL NOT be getting 2.2 froyo and the intercept is pink. I was also looking at sprints tutorials of the intercept and liked the phone dialer and how the incoming calls and outgoing calls, and phonebook look, i also heard it will have a fast processor and ive always liked samsung, the first htc i had was the touch pro, and that phone lagged alot, and then i had the diamond. I just dumped my pixi bc it was a POS and it was WAYY TO SLOW!! So i think Im gonna exchange the hero for the intercept.
Intercept is a nice device and isnt as bloated with software as the Hero though rooting it gives you the option to remove a lot of the Sprint installed stuff you wont need.

I have the intercept and so far give it 7 out
of 10 mainly due to the lo...

Live Background

Is anyone else upset by the lack of live wallpapers with this update? Does anyone have an idea on how we can get those on the Hero? 😡
I wouldn't sweat it too much, live wallpapers and snazzy graphic stuff won't do much but slow down the Hero I'd bet.
With the ROM I loaded on my rooted Hero (buufed 2.0b) I am able to assign Live Wallpapers (with hardware limitations).

Google Voice

What excatly does Google Voice do and how does it work? Also does it cost anything?
Google voice is free. It gives you another phone number to use on your phone (like a free 2nd line). I use my Google voice as my personal number and my real phone number as my work. You can send text msgs from your Google Voice number, block specific ...

Thinking about a Hero...have a question...

My Samsung m520 finally bit the dust yesterday, so I'm looking for a phone. I test-drove a Moment (because I've been very happy with Samsung in the past) but I was extremely disappointed. Sure, it was great for a little computer that fits in my purse, but for a phone it was lacking so I took it back. The ONE THING I did like about the phone was the proximity sensor on the touch screen...I did not accidentally hang up on anyone with my cheek like my husband has done with his Hero.

My question is: did the Eclair update for the Hero include some kind of fix for that? I know I could probably get used to a) holding the phone away from my face while I'm using it (provided I don't have to use my shoulder to prop it) or b) only using the ph...

The update didn't come with a fix that I've noticed. I've had the phone since day one when it was released and I have not once hung up on anybody. I love the phone and the only problem I have is with the battery life. And there are ways to increse tha...

Data Theethering

I was reading on the Evo forum that someone said he teethered his Hero to his computer to get it online. Does anyone know if it's possible to do it and if it is how and can it work on an X Box and or Wii?
With the Evo you use the hotspot feature (either by paying the $29.99/mo or rooting your phone and installing wireless tether). This works with the PS3 and Wii because it creates a simple wifi hotspot. Hero tethering is mostly by USB. It would require...

Google goggles didn't work as good as I would have liked. You take pictures of things and google tries to match it to something relevant. I never got any matches on common household items (but some of the suggestions were close).

Sirius XM app?

I currently have the BB 8330m and am due for an upgrade on 7/1. This phone seems like something I would be interested in and was wondering if the SiriusXM app will work on it? Has anyone tried it? From what I understand the app will work on newer model BBs. I appreciate any help on this topic. Thanks!

this phones a slow, lagging piece of SH$#

I had the Hero for about 4 months.... theres been a couple of times when I almost threw my phone against the wall... Everything i try to do is slow motion.. It takes a dammm ass long time just to remove a text messaging thread, and thats with ONLY A COUPLE OF MESSAGES ON IT...If it has days worth of messages forgot about it !!1 your phone will freeze up and u well have to restart it.... Everything is slow about this phone, dialing numbers , opening certain things up... Cant wait for the Nexus for sprint to come out.... 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿
Have had mine for about 4 months and I have no such problems. It will delete a text thread of 1000+ messages without too much difficulty. Maybe you just got a bad one...I love my hero

DUDE! Get your phone looked at. My phone runs fast and great. Have you updated it? Had my phone for a long time
Your gonna be waiting awhile for that nexus one homie. Sprint dropped it from the lineup, cause of the evo coming out, oh by the way I typed this all from my Hero. Running 2.1. Love it!

Thinking of getting a Hero, have a couple of questions first...

Hi all,

I have Cellular South service and I'm thinking about upgrading my phone and getting the HTC Hero. I've read through this forum and I'm sure my questions have already been answered but, here goes....

1- Cell South does not give the option of adding picture messaging to the phone...when I contacted customer service (via email) regarding this I was told..."Thank you for your email. The HTC Hero is not MMS capable at this time. This is the reason it will not let you select it as a feature. We have an update coming to make it available, however have not been given a release date."...Now, my husband swears that he knows people who have this phone who send and receive picture messages just fine. So, my question is...does it and how...

Access to the app marketplace on the net?

As I've stated in a previous thread I'm seriously looking into getting this phone. I would however like to look and get an idea of the apps out there available for it. I've tried to do searches online for the "Android Market", hoping to find a version that I can look through on my computer before making the leap and getting the phone. Unfortunately I'm not finding it online and it seems to only be available from the phone itself. Is there a way to go on this site on a computer just to have a looksee at what's available before I plunk down so much money?

NFL Mobile

So we will lose this then? Since Verizon agreed to a deal. I liked having this extra perk on my phone.
Get the new ESPN NFL Live. It's the exact same thing and the exact same widget. Sprint just sold the name but the new product is the same.
