Why would they choose At&t?

The only reason I could really think of is that At&t's bid was cheaper than the other carriers. At&t has very crappy signal, and very unreliable verses Verizon or even Sprint. I think they'll realize their mistake once they get the phones.. "Can you hear me now?" "No, because we didn't choose a better service provider."
Not sure who the "moderator" is who removed the subsequent messages in this thread, but that was weak sauce. I'm having to retype my legit response all over again thanks to you....and since I don't feel like going into the depth that I did the first ...

Well I've had personal service from Honolulu Cellular (TDMA)->At&t(TDMA/GSM)->Cingular(GSM)-> and now At&t(GSM)for well over 20 years here in Hawaii and I have to say that we have a distinct advantage of having comparably good coverage for all carrier...

Not for nothing, but, at the end of the day, it will probably be a bad choice no matter what the choice. If they had gone with AT&T they would have talked about how they shoulda gone with Vzw. If they had gone with Vzw they would have talked about why...

The Point...

The point you are all missing, and only a few of you have even touched on, is that this is a "bidding" process... The "winner" is the lowest bidder...

This "Project" has the same dilemma as the Space Shuttle. Your sending people into the most desolate place known to man strapped to a project built by the lowest quality materials for the lowest price.

The american people should ask for the best overall product, regardless of the price, when it comes to our safety. Why do you think the military has such a large budget? Sure, they have plenty of projects that are done on the same basis of lowest bid wins, but imagine how many deals are done under the table by congressman who need projects to be completed in their respective areas and ar...

Way to go at&t...

You know it says a lot when the Gov picks at&t as their primary wireless go to carrier for handsets and service in an emergency. Sorry Verizon but at&t is just better...
Handsets maybe, and then probably only because 99% of the phones are quad band GSM, so they have a greater variety that work overseas. They also mention the wifi capabilities and blackberries, of which VZW doesn't have any.

However, they say nothin...

Keep in mind that the White House signed a 5 year contract with VZW. Stop flaming and get a life.

I think you have the logic scewed, it says a lot about Verizon. Verizon has the technology and the bandwidth to maintain communications during a emergency/disaster. They have the technology, bandwidth, and personell to deal with congested networks, ph...

Poor Sprint....

Wasn't Sprint the main carrier begging the Government/Fema to go into a contract with them to provide services incase of an emergency?? Why would they choose such an unstable network like Sprint to use during an emergency.... Sorry Sprint but no stimulus package/bailout for you!! Let the flames begin!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣

No surprise here. With millions each year leaving Sprint, why shouldn't the government take a hint and abandon them too 🤣

Sorry Sprint, your days are numbered 👀

gotta love those fanboys.

that they will use att for normal use, but in emergencies (which shows who is more reliable) they chose big red.

So, since Sprint expressed interest in this government contract, AT&T and VZW fanboys called shenanigans, stating that Sprint only wanted their own unofficial bailout. But now that the two of them got the contract, suddenly there's nothing wrong with ...
