Quick Search Disable

It is the same story every day. My two year old son likes to watch videos and play games on my phone. He is quick and efficient at picking his favorites but every 15 minutes or so he accidentally presses the quick search button on the bottom right of the phone. I want to disable that button because I also press it on accident while handling the phone. Any ideas??

Thanks,

Shawn

Saving contacts on a Vibrant?

So, I work for a company who had a cell phone out to an employee, who has now become an ex-employee. There was a passcode on the phone, and he has not advised us as to what it is. There are a lot of contacts and what not on said phone, and we kind of need them.

A)Is there a plausible method, T-Mobile sponsored or otherwise, that we can get this information?

B)If we were to switch phones and the SIM card specifically, would it retain any of the information?

Does anyone know if the Vibrant had different variations released???

I bought three used Samsung Vibrants off of Craigslist in the past month and I just noticed that the one I have been using looks allot like the GalaxyS 4G version. They all have the two "eyes" located to the left of the speaker but, the one I have been using has what appears to be a camera hole to the right just like the 4G. Is it possible that I bought a 4G phone? The software says that it is a Vibrant but, I wanted to know if perhaps the phone could have been flashed that way? Is there a way to clone the 4G software and install it on my phone if it is in fact a 4G? I keep looking at the supplied photos and the Vibrant does not show this additional camera hole on the right, it's only on the GalaxyS 4G. Are there variations on the Vibrant mo...

It's pretty easy to expose the hole. There are many videos showing how to do it. I almost modded my Vibrant this way to install the camera for the GT-I9000, but didn't because I was worried about how I would return my phone if I messed it up. You may ...

Anyone know how to get 2.2 another way?

I just bought three used Vibrants. One has Froyo on it already and the other ones are still running Eclair. I kept one and gave one to my wife. I'm planning on selling the other one. I wanted to update them but, nothing seems to work. The TMo rep told me to get Kies, which I did but, it crashes everytime. I have the newest version of Samsung Studio and it says that the phone is unregistered and will not update there either. I have been reading about roms and have checked out XDA but, I'm not familar enough with the software to do all that is needed to get a Rom from there. I just want a simple "click" and your software is updated type thing. I know that the Froyo update is out there but, just can't seem to find it anywhere. I mean if I have ...

Haven't had those issues with the music player, so I'm no help there.

I can say, however, that flashing custom ROMs is much, much easier than it sounds.

Still hasn't corrected the GPS. Unfortunately the GPS is a frequently used feature (for me) but I'm outside of the 14 day return window. Has anyone had any luck rooting their Vibrant?
Rooting the device and backing it up is easy. there also quite a few good 2.2 roms for the vibrant that fix the gps. Such as the axura rom. go to you tube and type in - custom rom installation tetorial for the t-mobile samsung galexy S (vibrant)-an ea...

Speedtest

I ran the speed test and am getting mostly low numbers. Sometime my upload can be 1200 and download 90.

I changed the chip as the tech people said to.
Am I doing something wrong.. or is the phone to blame or is this just the speed of the 3G network.

any help would be appreciated
what chip did you replace? Have you checked your speed in mutiple areas cause its gonna vary depending on the area and how strong the 3g signal is and even what time of day(how many ppl are on the network at that time). So yah its also kinda wierd tha...

thinking of taking it back

So i've been a Samsung lover since i worked for at&t when it was Cingular (before the most recent merge). I've had and worked with many other phones, but samsung has just always hung in there as far as durability and quality.

These are the issues i've had with the Vibrant and I've only had it a week now:

screens freeze, sometimes the side button to wake the phone up doesn't work

I have to charge it twice a day. I'm not even a heavy user of the phone: I don't talk on it, I only text and its not like I do that all day long, occasionally I'll play a game for little bit.

my data connection goes in and out

and it seems like some settings (like key touch tones) change on their own.

also, i'm having issues with live wallpapers th...

Wish it was the Galaxy S Pro

like Sprint's Epic 4G. I've been waiting forever for a fast Android phone with a keyboard to replace my G1. The Sprint version has all the right features, but I still need a GSM phone, not a US-only CDMA thing.

Getting really tired of waiting. (And still don't want to switch to Verizon or Sprint - they seem to have the better phones right now, but I still need something that works when I travel to Europe too, and I don't want to carry multiple phones, because that still means I'll have an inferior phone when I'm on the road.)
What are you waiting for? The MyTouch 3G slide has a physical keyboard, is a fast android phone, and it has the genius button which allows you to enter almost everything by speaking. The speech to text Dragon dictation is amazingly accurate...not per...

What to do

I won a Vibrant and have it rooted and unlocked.

I don't have T-Mobile personally so I am trying to decide what to do with it. I may just sell it but not on ebay as they take a chunk out now.

I may even use it in a trade for a PS3 or such.

Dunno.

Any ideas?
give it to me! 😉 or put it on Craigslist, put it in'for sale', and put it in 'for trade or barter' section 🙂

Voice Dialing

I just purchases the Vibrant from Walmart as an upgrade (best price on-line or off-line) and find it to be a great phone (this is my first Android - coming from BB). The only problem I am having is the it seems to do a very poor job in recognizing my voice commands - either dialing a specific number or calling a programmed contact. Any thoughts on correcting this?

Also I am disappointed that the contact is not spoken back to me for confirmation and automatic dialing. I have to physically pick the contact and push the dial button.

Does anyone think that a third party app like Vlingo would work better and give me voice-back confirmation on the selections?

Thanks
I just read that Google has come up with something called Voice Actions that improves this, as well as offering many other commands besides just dialing. Here's a link to one article about it:

Root Access?

Biggest question of all - anybody running this thing with root access?
I've seen it rooted already, actually it was fairly easy to root as I have been told.

Also setting up free tethering is cake.
