A few years back, I was in a sales training and I asked the LG rep why doesn't LG make a smartphone? This was the fall before the Iphone launched. The rep stated that there really was not a demand for an LG smarthphone. I looked him in the eyes and asked, "Is there a demand for a washer/dryer combo which takes four hours to complete one load of laundry?" Silence. Well, at least they finally got around to it. Say what you will about the Iphone...I am glad that it dropped. It made all these other manufacturers step up their game. No there never will be an Iphone killer, but at least these manufacturers are trying to compete. Would RIM have developed the Storm had the Iphone not made the splash it did? I don't know...

never be an Iphone killer? you just hold on till the storm buddy boy. i do agree with you on the fact that if the iphone would not have dropped, i dont know if the would the storm would be coming out. i believe it would have still came out, just not near as fast as it did. the iphone was a pioneer, i'll give you that, but it's not the greatest phone in the world, or even the US for that matter.

your getting your spec sheet mixed up with your reality...
Yes, the iPhone lacks several features normal phones have but it also revolutionized the mobile industry- it still is the only touch screen phone to have Multi-touch technology! its OS is simply Beautiful. there are over 1500 games not including tools for building, shopping and a dozen other categories. Scrolling through pictures both taken from the phone and downloaded from a computer is simply amazing there has yet to be another phone on the market that comes close the the simplicity of using the iphone and still packs the punch of its processing power!
hand your 80 year old grandma a blackberry Storm and tell her to take a picture and e-mail it to your e-mail address. No...

well first off my 80-year old grandma would not even know where to start on either one, no matter how much easier it "might" be on the iphone. all i'm saying is just wait, don't be so quick to judge the fact that there will be no iphone killer. maybe the storm isn't the one to do it, but it'll be the closest thus far, and phones will only continue to grow in technology. as will the iphone technology, but there second time around didn't go so well. we'll see how they do from here on out.

...is APPLE!
They know the full potential of their device, yet they choose to cripple it.
No MMS
No removable battery
2.0MP camera with no flash
Crippled bluetooth
Limited 3G network (okay, that one is at&t)
By fixing the above, Apple could have a device that truly changes everything, yet they hold back, probably for the next generation of iPhones so folks will again line up days in advance to plunk down $$$

a lot of manufacturers know the full potential of their devices. also choosing to somewhat cripple them, but now in the heat of getting something out to compete with apple we'll start seeing more and more devices released that will put up a fight, and eventually, maybe not tomorrow, but eventually, there will be one.
