It's not $25, it's $30!

First of all, I want to make it clear I'm not critisizing the price, I just saying it doesn't make any sense at all to develop a wireless network, and have one rate plan for @ home, and another rate plan for mobile use, that's what wireless means, Mobile!!!

Why the heck would anyone get service that is wireless for home use only?!!!!?

The $25 at home plan is for people who buy the modem, not a wireless card. The modem is quite large and if you look at XOHM's website, they give different coverage for wireless vs modem, which to me means that the modem probably trasmits at a higher power and has a better receiver in it. The modem isn't necessarily mobile the same way a wireless card in your laptop is.

But my point remains what is the point in the developing a wireless network for ?HOME? service???

Well, for the $25 home service, you're not tied to a contract and you should average about the same speeds you'd see on DSL. The upside is that you'll probably get much faster speeds in the near future. This is huge if it's done right, which it appears to be starting out as. Hell, I'd give up my DSL for wireless that worked just about as fast and had the potential to go much faster.

So what makes you so sure they're going to up the speed so soon? Also isn't wireless XOHM also contract free.

Home XOHM makes no sense to me at all, the whole purpose of this is a wireless alternative to cable internet.

Increasing competition in any kind of market is always good news for consumers. Cable companies and DSL providers now have a new reason to try to keep their prices as low as possible.

That's good in my book.

Also, I don't understand your bias towards mobile devices. If the service will work in the home then why not use it there if that is the customer's desire? No business needs to turn customers away simply because they aren't exactly in line with marketing's projected users.

They'll have to compete with LTE in the next few years, as well as competing with both FiOS and cable (Comcast is trialing 150 Mbps service now, though I forget where).

Yes, contract free is the big deal here. When I sign up for FiOS, DSL, Cable, etc. I'm going to be locked into a 1 year contract. If I can get XOHM for the same or less than any of those, get speeds comparable to current DSL, and not have to sign any contract, that seems like a win in each one for XOHM.

And an alternative to cable internet is always good, be it wireless or wired. I'd take a wireless alternative to my DSL. Power line came down, I lose power and my internet. If the phone line was on that, I lose that too. With wireless, I've yet to lose my cell signal dur...

Not to forget that there are still a lot of old school users out there with just desktops. They have no need or interest in having internet away from their homes. Not having a contract is good for them. They may have homes in the North and South. They can just switch to what ever area they are in with no commitment. You can't do that with cable. you have to keep it activated while away for the season or you end up signing a new contract.

To go along with what you said another advantage of wireless for desktops, is if you move, you don't have to pay to relocate your service!!!

Your missing the big point here! You get broadband speeds on any device anywhere. This service is not just for your cell phone its for laptops and desktops both. This make your internet connection no matter the type portable at dsl speeds. Hints the name wi-max wifi everywhere. I cant wait! 😎

About the contract thing, I've always thought to myself whatever happened to EARNING business, 2 months into a contract your not happy, your screwed for another 10 months.

I haven't been under contract with Cingular/ATT for 3yrs.

Of course, for wireless phones, you get a better price on your handset in exchange for signing the contract.

I could never understand the customer that gets hung up on the contract thing and then pays full price for his or her equipment. In most cases, if a contract is signed, he or she would save far more than what the termination fee would be if they decided to cancel later.

Not smart.
