AT&T Moves to Block Xohm, Clearwire Merger
AT&T Knew It All Along
The question is, will WiMAX hold up? I think WiMAX will gather a large audience right away (business customers, wireless gaming and other fun things), but will it have enough of a head start to matter?
LTE isn't far away, and AT&T knows it, and that's why they're making this move to block WiMAX/Sprint; they want to even the playing field a little bit.
It's not good for the consumer, and I'm pissed at AT&T for that. But really, have cell phone companies ever played fair OR done what's ...

After some further research, why do you (this is directed towards anyone) think Sprint and their backers (Google, Intel, etc.) chose WiMAX whereas Verizon and AT&T chose LTE to begin with?
The technologies are so similar technologically that WiMAX seems like a pretty obvious choice because it's ready. It seems that WiMAX will also continue to evolve and catch up to LTE's standard pretty quickly.
So again, what deciding factors pushed VZW and AT&T to LTE?
These two technologies are not owned, sold or made by the wireless companies. they are marketed items that other companies developed and sell. Since these technologies have actually been in the works for years, LTE and WiMax were able to get VZW ,AT&T ,Sprint etc to go with their respective technologies. So the wireless companies have actually been slowly adding this infrastructure to their networks for awhile to ready the world for the future. They can't just scrap all the time ,money and equipment. WiMax theoretically should not have been ready this early but Sprint and clearwire have done a great job in acquiring b...

first is the roaming agreements. VZW and ATT and everyone else that is going to use LTE will have roaming agreements and want to capitalize on the financial aspect of roaming agreements as well as international roaming coverage.
Second is that Sprint needs a shot in the arm, leg and butt to get them going again. They didn't have the time to wait for LTE to develop enough for release, and once it did, everyone else would have it at the same time anyway. That gives them no competitive advantage. SPrint needed to move and move now.
