AND would those that have a texting block get the alerts either way? If it's a national emergency that could threaten health of individuals, it would be quite interesting to see just how connected the american people is to their cell phones.

Probably they would keep the messages brief and use t9 entry mode so for example the message could read:

From what I understand about the switch operating system for most major networks, blocking text is an all or nothing deal. If you have an admin txt block thru the switch, nothing is coming thru to your phone, emergency or not. You would need a pay per use feature code on your account at least to receive. Most carriers I would like to think would not charge for emergency txts. ๐Ÿคจ

AT&T however when having a text block, you can still receive msgs from them and only them, even though the feature is turned off.

Same with Verizon. Even if you have a text message block, you can still get Verizon's text messages.
I don't know if it's the same company but I did hear over the radio that you can sign up for freeamberalerts.com (if I'm not mistaken) and they say that the child predator alerts are free.
That's just a guess.

I have a text block on my account, and it blocks all text messages, including messages from Verizon Wireless. So don't tell me that text messaging blocks don't block messages from the carrier.

I'm not here to argue with you or step on your toes in any way. I know that I get text messages from Verizon to check my minutes, balance and what not even with a block put on.
I would recommend calling customer service to let them know because I know that you at least should be able to.

"Subscribers will not be charged for messages sent through the alert system, which will not be operational until 2010."

Amber alerts are already available on the major carriers, though I don't remember for sure whether or not they're free. I think they are... I get so few of them that it hardly matters.
