Sprint is slated to start selling theirs August 30th (plus it will be cheaper after MIR) lol
...
So how is VZW the first U.S. Carrier when Sprint's goes on sale August 30th at direct stores and Sprint.com, and indirects receive the phone September 5th.

How is Sprint going to sell it if the phone is banned by the ruling against Qualcomm in the patent case with Broadcomm? Verizon has already agreed to pay Broadcomm to be able to release new phones available after the June ban date. To my knowledge, sprint has signed no such agreement with Broadcomm. (BTW, V9m uses a Qualcomm chipset)

Maybe it was already imported into the US before June? I know Phone Scoop had them in their hands a couple of weeks ago.... they could have easily already been imported in before June.

I believe Phonescoop had a prototype. I don't think prototypes count to get around the import ban. So you think they would import them and let them sit on the shelves for 3 months. Wouldn't they have wanted to pre-empt the launch of the iPhone?
I guess if the hardware was final, they could have imported them before the ban just to get around it and then just flash them with final software before shipping.
...
that is what they did. the launch calendar is set thru october. all they have to do is import the chipset, not the final product

I think you're mistaken. They use to make their own GSM chipsets when they had Freescale. They always relied on qualcomm for their CDMA chipsets and have just begun to explore TI for CDMA as well as GSM. Freescale still produces most of their GSM chips. Qualcomm is also their main supplier of W-CDMA chipsets.

Nothing really seems new since the iPhone.

Ehh, whatever. I'm a Verizon subscriber and could less about a new RAZR2. It looks like it's going to have an ugly red and black bars GUI like most Verizon phones. Other features become irrelevant at this point. So unless something changes between now and when Verizon starts selling it, I'm gonna stick with my Motorola W385 or LG VX8600 if a W385 doesn't work out.
...
The 8600 was discontunited the middle of last month so good luck getting one. Also the reception is not that great that is the phone I carry. I love it other then that though!!
...
Actually, I bought my 8600 when it was first introduced and still have it. You can still buy them on ebay. It works fine in my area. But I just purchased a Motorola W385 to check it out and aside from a few small kinks, it works fine so far. We'll see.

Some dealers still have them to
