SIM Card?

Ok, maybe I'm missing something. Where does the SIM card go?
in the phone, most of the time is under the battery...

man, you have to pay more in order to run the features... f-ing BS!!!
...
At first, I read that the SIM card was not removable. Now I see there are reports that the SIM card slot is at the top of the device. Apparently, at the January keynote, there was a picture of an arrow pointing to a slot at the top. Search the Web for...

What I want to know is - will they deactivate my sim card when I activate the iphone?

I am assuming yes.

Can Someone who works for ATT please explain?

Taken from the ATT website:

Existing Customers

Minimum new 2-year wireless service plan and activation fee required to activate iPhone features, including iPod; plans are subject to AT&T credit approval.

What does this mean? As an exisiting customer I will have to pay an additional activation fee when buying the iPhone?

That price being $36.00 per line / per iPhone?

Is the pricing on the device so cheap because you only offer an EDGE network, instead of a faster HSDPA/HSUPA connection?

Now I see why Verizon told Steve Jobs to shove it.
No, you will instead pay the normal upgrade fee of $18
...
You must be eligible for upgrade right now if you are an existing customer. The only difference is you must get a corresponding plan and be eligible for upgrade... basically no retail price on the phone right now.

Verizon told Steve Jobs no becaus...

As I understand it, existing customers won't have to pay an upgrade fee or an activation fee unless activating a new line for the iPhone. The upgrade fee only applies to buying a phone at a subsidized price. The activation fee only applies to starting...

This is AMAZING

I think ATT nailed it with these plans!!! I'm just shocked that they made it affordable, way to go ATT!!!!! This will bring in the masses with these great packages!!!
200 sms messages seems limited to me. That's why I don't use AT&T. They have good phones but their service and network coverage in the US seems crappy, especially in smaller towns.

This is affordable? Man AT&T has u kids dooped. I was hesitant to leave AT&T because I thought it would get better, seeing these plans confirms that AT&T is still behind Verizon and Sprint on the data curve. Good luck! ๐Ÿคฃ

are you kidding me? how can you sit here and think these plans are good? for what visual voice mail? I pay 50 now for 900 min plus a extra 39 for unlimited data, and text messages... no way i would give up that for these crazy plans.. PLUS pay 600 for...

I'm Holding off...

Looks great, but I know the next version will be better, and you all know it too.

I'm really tired of having to be the first and getting burned. Bought the Panasonic Blu Ray player at $1,000. 3 months later it's $600 and still relatively new technology.

When the iPhone is released with 3G, flash for camera and higher res., and removable battery I'm a buyer.

Bye.
The iPhone would also have to do laundry or wash the dishes for me to purchase it at that price... for crying out loud, its a cell phone, if you want all that extra stuff, spend half the money on a Treo or PPC. They both can access youtube and get vi...

Great news you CANNOT keep your company discounts on iphone!!

Talked to 2 of my buddies who went to the iphone training class yesterday at corporate and let me tell you...Anyone who is getting a company discount (FAN) on there employee liable account will lose it...Switching over to these iphone plans will automatically loose your monthly discount...I myself get 22% off my bill roughly 20.00 a month discount..There is NOOOO way i will switch off my current plan for this...That and my N95 Nokia is in almost every way superior Feature set wise....think about all those old Att wireless unlimited plans still in active use....
Those old ATT Wireless Unlimited plans lapsed a long time ago. The offer was 99.99 for 3000 minutes, but with a contract one got unlimited airtime for the length of the contract. When the merger came along, the promo was extended, but Cingular did ult...

STILL NO ISSURANCE!!

I still can't image myself buying a phone that priced sooo high, only a 2g device, and not be able to put insurance on it. I think Apple should have not been so picky and gone with a career that allows insurance on a PDA phone. Anyone know who does? If so, tell Apple plz.
it's not apple, it's cingular. the phone is being classified as a pda/smartphone, which at&t/cingular does not insure. i think someone said that apple is offering its own separate insurance on the phone, but i'm not sure. let me look around before ...

Cingular/AT&T uses Lockline, which doesn't insure high-end devices and/or PDAs. Why? Who knows, who cares - most insurance companies that offer insurance on anything other than cars or homes will have a small electronics policy specifically for expe...

Don't forget that Verizon was offer first and they past.

Somehow, I doubt that Apple would have consented to trusting the coverage of the device to anything but AppleCare, which has generally been a driving force behind their brand loyalty.

14 days to return instead of 30

From http://www.slashgear.com/iphone-will-be-locke d-down-to-a-single-sim-card-att-to-charge-10- restocking-fee-265917.php

"Usually with AT&T you have 30 days to check out a phone and see what you think. If you return it within that time, no harm no foul. However, you will be limited to 14 days with the phone and you will be charged a 10% restocking fee. If you thought buying the iPhone was expensive, just wait until you try to return it!"
That's Apple's policy as far as I know, not at&t. Apple is handling most of the distro for the device, including selling it at their stores.

Anyone with an iPod or iMac have any info on if this is Apples SOP or somthing new?

So you can't add iPhone data service to an existing plan???

Wow. This actually sucks. I have a 39.99, 1000 min. a month w/rollover plan on mine and my wife's phones and have no interest in EVER giving that up. I just upgraded to the BB Curve, but was still considering the iPhone. However, if they aren't going to make it possible for customers like me to tack on some sort of iPhone data plan to our currently existing promo plans, then I want no part of it. Does anyone know if this is the case? Are we indeed limited only to the plans listed in this press release if we want an iPhone? ๐Ÿ˜•
Answered my own question...

from the at&t website FAQ...

Existing Customer Questions

Q. How do I upgrade to iPhone?
A. Just go to an AT&T retail store, and mention you're replacing your existing phone. Our salespeople will help you throug

MVNO plans...

not a bad deal... stick sucks thought because its edge but not a bad plan pricing
To be honest, EDGE is not that bad. It is FINE when surfing the net on the phone. I think the only thing EDGE can't compete with is broadband cards. Where we don't have UMTS to compliment our EDGE, CDMA carriers with EV-DO will beat us out on that....

Fantastic Rate Plans, Here's Why...

Normally, a plan for 450r Min, 200 sms & unl data (pda) would run you about $85 Bucks. Now you can get all of that for a measly $60! That's sounds good to me. Your basically getting a normal rate plan w/ the MEdia Max 200 Bundle tied in. This is gread considering the iPhone will be considered a PDA and unl PDA plans start at $39.99 for data only.

Yeah, but...

Just for comparison's sake...

I'm using an unlocked Nokia N95 with T-Mobile. I pay just under $80 per month and get:

-1500 anytime minutes
-unlimited NW minutes
-unlimited T-Mo to T-Mo minutes
-unlimited texts messaging
-unlimited MMS messaging
-EDGE data speeds

My phone also has wifi. And thanks to roaming agreements, pretty reliable coverage (I personally cannot remember the last time I dropped a call). I'm also not under a contract.
why whould you like to use MMS if yo ucan use e-mail, it really would be nice it to have mms, but i thing iphone is not going for that way, i think iphone is going for internet services not mms.

Why the iPhone prices is cheaper

The iPhone is not MMS capable like other pda phones. The regular PDA prices which is $15 more includes the price of xpress mail and gets 1500 messages including mms. The price difference isn't that big of a difference when you break it down. Existing members do have the option to just add the an existing voice plan. It has listed that it is $30 for the one with 1500 sms messages. *For small PDA plans you can add xpress mail for $5*

Family Plan or Other Options?

So I was planning on adding the iphone to one of my lines on my family plan, and just purchasing the appropriate data package to go along with it. However, with the announcement of specific iphone plans I am wondering if this is even possible. Additionally, I am now wondering if it possible to change my family plan if there is no other option.
Sorry, ignore...didn't see the rest of the story. ๐Ÿ˜›
