I can't receive calls on my Sidekick 2008, but I can make calls?

I recently bought the new Sidekick 2008 and I can only make calls, not receive them. Its the same with texts. When i turn on the phone i get an alert saying "Network services unavaliable". It says that either my GPRS APn settings are incorrect or my account isnt configured for GPRS. I am a resident of Canada and I'm hoping someone can help me. PLEASE.
Press menu+L to get to main screen
if you bought the phone off the internet and are using it on someone other than t-mobile, such as rogers wireless or something like that, then it will not work. sidekick is for USA use only and will not work in any other country. european versions s...

cannot load images + myspace messages

Whenever I go to any site, pictures do not load. They show up the dementions and then just shows the file name along with the file type. like in the square, it says "tmobile.jpeg" or "tmobile.jpg"

That and, whenever I log into myspace and have a message its nearly impossible to try to reply. The little box where I would reply doesn't give me the ability to type anything... help?
get rid of your sidekick. 😲

Seems expensie for a SMS/MMS only phone.

I know that it can do a few other "things" but no Wi-Fi, video player, etc for a Qwerty-board featured phone makes it difficult for me to consider purchasing for my daughter.

Is this primarily a messaging and gaming device?
What am I missing? (No flaming, please)

Note that we have WM, Nokia and Moto devices and are used to each manufacturer's modding/hacking capabilities.

Thanks for any insight.
You pretty much wrapped it up. Its geared towards the younger crowd due to its changeable housing and messaging features. Beware its a money trap because you have to pay for ring tones, alerts, apps, games, everything starting at $2.50 up to $10. I su...

In recent memory I cannot think of any other phone that was so Dead On Arrival 😲

So outdated, too bulky, no 3G support, not even WIFI, no video support (i.e. youtube) when was this phone made ... in 2003?
3g is a network thing that is being "built" to bulky? its a skinner ocean if you ask me .. and yes it does support video w/sd .. that even comes with

custom ringers?

the recent SK didnt have this option, so i am assuming since the phone is all about customizing shieet, can this phone do that? Because if it can, that would be sick.
You can buy ringers and themes from the catalog, but you still can't set your own MP3 as a ringer.

I don't think sharp made this ...

I'm being really suspicious about this new .. Sidekick 08. It looks way too plasticy to be from sharp IMO, and it does not say sharp on the back of the display thing.. something sharp loves to do.

I think T-Mobile wanted an 'in-between" phone for the ID and the LX, and got some no-name company to throw this together. Any proof sharp had anything to do with this new SK?
It says Sharp under the battery cover. If you watch the video preview on this site you can see it.
or better yet. You can see the Sharp name embedded in the plastic here.

Question about mobile service!!!

I am considering getting Tmobile, and i believe that i want to get the sidekick 2008...but if i do, i know that i have to get the sidekick unlimited service...but does that mean that i have to still get unlimited text messaging or is unlimited texting included in the sidekick unlimited plan?

thank you!!!
Unlimited texting is included. I got the phone Friday (it is awesome, by the way) and confirmed this with the rep.

i would have liked to see clips of the phone playing video

i know that they added video to that sidekick, so i also liked to have seen a video clip play. i hope sharp upgraded the processor so it can run video smoothly.
this Sidekick is just like every other one since the 3. Disapointing. Internet is always slow and drops data and the video playback is choppy and its in the lowest form of resloution possible. Just another attempt from SHarp to tell more sidekicks....

SideKick LX just got SOFTWARE UPDATE!!!!!!

SideKick LX just got SOFTWARE UPDATE!!!!!!

After almost 2 weeks since the Sidekick 2008 is released the LX finally gets the same Software upgrade. You get a few facial enhancements in terms of the images for the icons on the menu screen.

Here are the major enhancements:
You can now enter a chat room on AOL (AIM) instant messenger.

Camera can now record video clips. Even with a memory card it only records 20 second clips. Unlike other cell phones that can record forever depending on how big the size of the Micro SD card is.

You can now send the video clips as well. You can also add video clips to your memory card & watch them. So if you have a TV show or movie saved to your PC you can now copy, paste, save on SD card, and watch ...

Side Kick

Garbage is: 🙄 The QWERTY keyboard is a disappointment. The keys are small (even for a smartphone), slippery, and hard to press.

Dialing a phone number is garbage. You have to slide the screen open and enter the number using the keyboard. (If you've already entered a contact into your address book, you can initiate a call with the phone closed.) Once the call is connected, you can close the phone--and to talk, you'll have to. This additional step isn't a deal-breaker, but it’s a pain. The sidekick is also bulky and heavy when on a call.

The Slide, supports the EDGE data network. This is not a true high-speed, 3G data network, and it shows: Pages and images can be slow to load.

Software is a true weakness for all Sidekick p...
Perfect summary of the Sidekick Slide. The phone being reviewed, though, is not the Slide. 😉

The sidekick isnt a smart phone. I'm not going to bother reading the rest.

Side kick

I am amazed that T mobile still messes with this garbage. I guess people must still buy this but the question is why?

I never see anyone use one anymore and I travel more than I like, my 12 year old daughter told me no one in school uses it so who buys it?

Yet, T mobile has a whole row in their inventory???

Maybe there is a big demand for it in "Rooster Poop Ark".
I work at a kiosk. Lots of people that walk by use some version of the sidekick. LOTS. Your claim about what your daughter observed isnt reconciled with reality. Kids tend to flip out over the sidekick daily so I'm not going to take your claim about y...
I am not going to stake any claim to what your daughter states either, maybe not in "snozberry, ny" where everyone and their dog uses an iphone, but everywhere else I have been and seen people use them all the time. They are fantastic device for hear...
