Qualcomm Speeds up 3G, Cingular Is Interested

EV-DO playing catch up ?

With all the improvements to 3GSM technology, where does this leave EVDO ???

My current Cingular phone (V3xx) is capable of 3.6Mpbs downloads using HSDPA once the network is updated to comply. (Theoretical speeds I know.)
EVDO Revision A has a much lower theoretical download speed AND you cannot use Voice and Data at the SAME TIME like you can with UMTS/HSDPA.

Will EVDO ever catch up ???
sprint wimax is 70mbps down, and i believe 20-30 up.

cingular will probably get this but it wont be deployed till like 2011 because hsdpa isnt even up much.

so before hspa+ is up, they need to do hsdpa all out first.

evdo rev A's speed is actually the same for download (3.6 mbps) and faster for upload (1.8 mbps) as hsdpa. so i'm not sure why you think hsdpa is superior. (at least from a speed standpoint).

Also keep in mind that EVDO Rev. A is only using a 1.2mhz channel. HSDPA uses 5mhz channels. Rev. B will link EVDO channels to create a single channel, then things will even out. This will be a catfight for a long time. The capabilities of the two are...
