Roaming

Will this phone Roam?
yes it will, and it should be included in your rate plan. I would check your rate plan if I were you.

How do I load pictures or MP3 sounds

I searched the forum first and saw that someone else had also asked the question about loading pictures.

I haven't been able to find how to load pictures. (Hoping that pictures will give me a clue when scrolling down to call someone . . . the display type font is very small for my 30 year old eyes)

Also would like to load some ring tone songs. Haven't been able to find that either.

Plug into my computer's USB and the phone is recognized, but wants software to communicate.

What am I missing.
I''ve plugged it into my Mac, it says "USB Cable Inserted" or something like that, but my computer doesn't recognize it.

I don't think it supports Mp3.

And what I did was to get pictures on it, I texted them from another phone and number to it.

Not a fan

I am very intrigued by Nextel and have considered getting service with them a few times now, but I can not force myself to carry around a big ugly phone. These phones make me want to throw up. I can understand that Nextel provides good service, but I guess I am just too shallow for their phones. I mean come on. At least make it bluetooth so I can hide it in my pocket!
Nextel does have bluetooth phones.
This is a "rugged" phone. It's about as "rugged" as phones come nowadays. If you want a dainty Razor that breaks when you look at it just so that you can fit into the fashion society, be my guest. This phone isn't meant to be pretty. It's meant to del...

Porting oddities/No WLK-TLK

I just ported my number over from Helio to Sprint/Nextel and got a ic502. Well, the customer rep said it might take like 2 days for the port to completly go through. Anyone else had this problem?

Also, with a new service, did anyone else see the No WLK-TLK message in the corner?

Question for anybody in Balto-Was. DC area

I used to have Nextel and switched to Cingular because I had a lot of dropped calls. Can anyone in the Balto-Was (mainly Balto.) area give some insight on how this hybrid service compares to Nextel only service? Thanks.

IC502 thing about getting

i have been thinking about getting this phone, i have the Sanyo7000 now, i like it for the most part, i tried to call today and get this phone i was transferd 7 time every time to the rong person. is this phone worth all of this? can i keep my plan i have with sprint i have 500min free incoming calls, no roaming or log distance. i had nextl a while back and i liked the 2way they have. i have read some reviews on this phone and not so sure now/ Sprint/Nextel needs to get people that can speak english every time i call i never know what they are saying and they never understand me.
Dude,

I went from Sprint to Nextel then back to Sprint, they say that they are the same company on the commercials, but the reality is that they have different contract fine lines. Sure the PTT is awesome, but the charges are outrageous when you...

Q on additional fees?

I started out with Sprint back in 99' then I got this wild hair and decided to goto Nextell as my in-laws live in Tijuana, Mx. and the PTT gave us a great way to communicate without the long distance phone bill. Well, for a little while. I put my father in-law on my plan then I started getting these outragious bills for international PTT usage and for regular phone usage. Nextell and Sprint sell themselves as being one and the same on TV, but there not. they have different charging rates. We went to El Paso, Tx., where my wife used her Sprint phone without any problems and I had a H time getting a signal, then when I did on the U.S. side of the border, I got later got charged for international rates. I gave up on Nextell and went back to Spr...

A couple of Q's.

Does anyone know whether this is going to use a SIM card or just use the CDMA activation?

Nextel stores tend to carry Boost mobile and I was wondering how exactly these will be activated in the stores since both Nextel and Boost use a SIM card for activation.
The ic502 uses both a SIM and a serial number (like other CDMA phones) the SIM is for the direct connect (not voice). The serial number is used for voice and data.

Whats the point?

Can someone explain to me the point of using iDen for PTT? Whats wrong with CDMA PTT?
IDEN PTT is better until Qchat hits, thats my understanding. so it gives the current IDEN user better voice using CDMA, and they can still have their rock solid IDEN PTT.
...
Sprint’s push to talk is horrible and will be phased out when Qchat comes aboard. Those customers who want to still use Nextel’s DC will continue to but their traffic will be re-routed onto the Sprint CDMA network which is a lot better than Nextel...

Not all CDMA PTT is like that, just the particular types of...

What's wrong with CDMA PTT, the same thing that's wrong with Cingular and Verizon PTT.. it's called lag time... there is a 1-6sec relay delay between pushing the button, opening a channel and reach your intended contact.

In theory, it's VoIP PTT, b...

Not to steal anyone's thunder..

but the frequency that these phones use for CDMA service is only 1900 Mhz. Yes you will be able to have more reliable voice calls, stronger data and a much more intuitive and easier text protocol, but you won't be able to roam! There isn't any 850Mhz capability with these hybrids, so essentially you still have a Nextel phone and coverage, its just that it happens to be using CDMA technology for calls. So if you happen to travel alot and are in an area that Sprint has a roaming agreement you still wont be able to use this phone.
i dont get why they would make this phone and not have roaming put into this phone. what is the eye catcher with this phone? it wont have EVDO so what would make someone from the IDEN network switch over to the CDMA network? they didnt really think ab...

Anyone looking to use these phone in the northeast is out of luck. All of Sprint's roaming agreements in the NE area are with companies that support only 850 and not 1900. At first these phones where not even going to be launched in the NE area.

Good I guess...

This is what Sprint/Nextel has been waiting for, but reading the posts here it seems haphazard and it seems thet quickly threw this together just to have SOMETHING justifying the merger. So it's a normal Sprint with Push to Talk? Seems lame.
It's a good idea in theory, but so far it has not been working out to great. Specifically there have been TONS of porting issues.

If they could get the problems ironed out it would be great, because at least a couple of people a day come in to my s...

These phones have been nothing but hell for our store so far, hopefully they have it worked out by now. 🙂
yea, if they're anything like the "blending" that has happened thus far with the technologies, I wouldn't expect any miracles. They still may be laying off employees from their profit loss 🤣
