I hate complaints on rebates

It's a known fact that most of the people in the US are lazy. Rebates take about 2 minutes to fill out and send in. If a person signs up for a phone and knows that they MUST send in a rebate to collect the rest of the money and ARE aware of the restrictions on it, they have no reason to complaint. You are told about a rebate, you don't compelete it in time, you don't get the money. The company doesn't make it easy but hey, nothing in life is.

I didn't even get ripped off but I'm posting this same message 3 times to prove a point - read the article and understand that mailing in the rebate isn't always just as simple as doing what you were asked no matter how bizarre.

"On example from 2004 alleges InPhonic required that consumers send in a wireless bill at least 120 days old to qualify for certain rebates—but at the same time, the document had to be postmarked within 120 days of service activation in order to get the rebate."

Hey, that's just too bad for those lazy Americans who haven't built their own time machine yet. 😁

Your wise comments forget to mention the fact that blacks are no good and it's a known fact women shouldn't worry their little heads with politics.

What you fail to realize is that these companies are using rebates as nothing more then a marketing tool to generate business with little to no intention of fulfilling them. Reference Best Buy.

Jdog,
You obviously havent bought from wirefly. They were purposely sending out expired rebate forms to customers so they didn't have to pay out. Cingular has called them out on this and filed a suit some time ago according to my RAE. I have had literally 100's of customers from 2005 that bought from wirefly and had the same xperience. I see your point about lazy customers, but this is one of those situations wgere the company issuing the rebates is in the wrong, not the customer being lazy and not filling out the form correctly or not sending it in at all.

I'm not trying to say that what they did is right, and it sucks that people were given faulty rebates. But a lot of the complaints are from people who just didn't send them in on time. It's a huge rebate and tons of expensive phones are free so of course it won't be easy or else they wouldn't make as much money as they do now. I'm not defending them because I do not agree with what they do, but for the people who chose to activate with them and forget to send in a rebate (not because it was impossible) and then complain because they can't get their money after the deadline is bs. Everybody who sells any product knows about these people. Cell phone companies for example have "grace periods" and if you come in after the deadline why should you...

No one is arguing that you have an excellent point.

It just isn't relevant to the news post. That's why you are getting all these people who are pointing out the facts from the news article.

Best Buy actually had legitimate agreements set-up with people in Young America or wherever the hell that city is to monitor and pay-out on rebates. InPhonic on the other hand was using/applying the concept of the 'time-deferred rebate' which is a joke! 90% will be denied regardless of information being submitted correctly because the concept relies on the person being fed up and tired so they won't pursue... Now, that's not even counting the people who forget (or don't care) about submitting it to begin with because of the 'having to wait' 120 days...

It's a known fact that most cell phone companies in the US are greedy. That the companies use the rebate system to make more money of the laziness of the average american. And even though they only take 2 minutes to fill out and send in if there is any minor discrepancy it can be exploited until the customer figures it is too much work to solve it. And it is, companies make money in the business of keeping money from their customers. People who take the side of billion dollar corporations against regular people for $30-$50 have a cheerleading dissease that should be fatal.

Rebates do suck, but people already know what they have to do. It really isn't all that hard! Read the instructions, fill out the form completely, and mail it on time.

I will admit, I generally do not send in rebates that are less than $30.

The difference is, though, that I have a CHOICE on whether or not I get the rebate - I can fill out the form properly and send it in or not.

Wirefly sounds like they make that decision for you - that doesn't just suck, it's immoral.

its just my company hires someone else to do the rebates, and the people who did it 3 or 4 years ago were really bad (to the point where you think they get commission on denying rebates) and i have to deal with every other customer saying "well i didnt get our last rebate" enough times where you know the whole system is corrupt, these people who did them for us cellular a while back were bad, but it is just indicative of a whole system that is aimed at misleading customers about the prices of their phones and the possibility to make even more on a transaction.

but it just makes me cringe when sell phone "associates" champion their billion dollar corporate daddies over the customer as a whole and are in such a rush to blame the little guy.

You are putting words in my mouth.

I never once said mail in rebates were good. I never said that the "billion dollar corporate daddies" are good.

My whole point was that YOU have a choice - YOU don't have to purchase something that has a mail-in rebate.

And as for the little guy, he's the one that cheats and steals every chance he gets. He's the one telling me he never dropped his phone in water when the indicators are all red and their is water sloshing around in his screen. He's the one telling me it's my fault that the deadline on the rebate passed before he even bothered to read the thing. He's also the one who wants to look at a phone, and then tries to pocket it as I am standing next to him.

The little guy is no sain...
