Mobile WiMax Standard Approved
4G time. .. My thoughts.
wimax is pretty interesting technology to me, but no one has any idea how it will perform in a true environment instead of in the labs. i still think that many carriers will start to test many other technologies, but the problem is, i dont think they have enough spectrum to launch it in the cities to get an roic on the investment. cingular obviously is doing umts/hsda, while verizon is doing ev-do rev O and REV A. the only other company that has plenty of spectrum to deploy any 4g technology is sprint/nextel eventhough they already are going from DO rev o to rev a.
i think it comes down to flarion, td-cdma, and wimax. if wimax is true on what the speeds and the signal lengths can travel then it will be a very huge...
That four year deadline strongly suggests that they'll do UMT...
WiMAX will Die a Painful Death
In the meantime, the world will not stand still. You'll have release 6 or even 7 from UMTS by then which will probably include an OFDMA downlink at least and an all IP architecture. They will learn from wimax implementation errors.
Qualcomm seeks to standardize FLASH-OFDM which already does everything wimax...
I can see in now.....
