VZW still thinks its 1980 and it is Ma Bell

This is a great message to VZW even though is will have almost zero financial impact to them. Most of the returns/cancelations/ect from the v710 case will be us enthusiasts/teckies. VZW should have been given a multi-million or even a billion dollar fine for its repeated abuse of its customers through deceptive marketing and outright lies. If anyone ever read the interview floating around the internet with the VZW executive about the handicapping of the V710 would realize their arrogance. VZW is the Frankenstein child of Ma Bell. Remember when you couldn’t actually OWN a telephone (land line); you could only RENT one from them? and Extra Extensions were ILLEGAL? The apple does not fall far from the tree.
People honestly just don't care. As you said, it won't hurt them financially and in business that is all there is to it... what will be the most profitable in the short AND long term.

Don't like it? Don't complain, just put your money elsewhere.

Anyone remember The President's Analyst?
Multi-million or Multi-Billion would mean we'd all pay an extra $10 in "recovery fees" ...

I am in 100 percent agreement with you, Just because VZW inherited the bandwith under the System A / System B split does not make them "competitive". They are an incumbent wireless carrier. That through some moves bought more bandwidth.

Yeah I wonder if anyone out there can give me some insight on when will VerizonWireless respond back to customers who submitted claims.
You won't hear back until after the settlement is final in January.

Good Customer Service...Bad Customers.

In an effort to keep customers satisfied, is this what it really takes?
Does anyone read return policies anymore, read a user manual, or do some basic research on what they buy any more?
I bought a Motorola 710 from Verizon when it first came out about a year ago. I had a basic understanding of what bluetooth was, but what the selling point to me on the phone was, that it allowed me to use a handsfree headset without wires. I plan on keeping my phone and not cancelling like many people will do. So, for those of you who feel you have been duped by your own ignorance, or even poor consumership...go ahead and cancel, get a credit...and move on.
It's not so clear cut. Bluetooth can also be used for other wireless services, such as connecting a computer to a printer. However, Bluetooth is often used to transmit files to and from devices. Files could include ringtones, wallpapers, and pictur...

That's great that the main selling point was a wireless headset. Others, however, were lured by Verizon's advertisements of full Bluetooth connectivity, including object exchange, etc, as evidenced by Verizon and Motorola advertisements that can be s...

I bought my phone the first day it was out. To date, my palm zire 72 still does not have an entry to do a phone link with the 710; this isn't a necessary feature but does make doing BT linking much easier, making life easier. I thought I would be able...

since when is getting lied to your face poor consumership??? are you one of verizons scumbag lawyers?
Oh my lord. Are you serious? Bad customers???? This whole thing was about their "Valued Customers" getting screwed. Thats why they were sued. They were in the wrong. Thats nice that you were happy, but MANY others weren't.
I'm not even a VZW customer, but what you just said was so stupid...everyone was lied to and they did research it before buying it...maybe you are the incompetent one who doesn't know the full functionality of bluetooth? did you think of that?

I was wondering something. With the option that you can return your phone, get a refund, and get out of contract. Is the refund Pro-Rated to what the phone is CURRENTLY selling for, or is it what you orignaly payed for it? the legal document doesn't s...

Question

I have been calling customer service and the Verizon Wireless store about this. Everyone I talked to knows nothing about it. How do I go about trading in my phone?? Thanks for your help.
Wait until you get the notice. Fill it out and send it in. Then wait until the agreement is final in January.
It reads like it could be a web based trade at this time. There is reference to a website to be set up where you can go and pick out your p...

Clarification question about the settlement

So, I think I qualify for the settlement as I bought my v710 when it was first released from Radio Shack. However, I'm not sure about one thing. First, under Section A of the claim form it says:

"2. I activated Verizon Wireless Cellular Service for a Motorola V710 cellular telephone on or before January 31, 2005; and"

Does this mean new activation or does it include equipment changeovers? I had Verizon before this but switched phones over to the V710. I read the settlement document and it contains similar verbage so I'm not sure.

Thanks.

Jeff
Fill out the form and send it in. What the worst that can happen? They say no and you loose 37 cents on a stamp?

But yes, as I take it, upgrades should be covered as well provided that you renevewed your agreement and signed a contract.

Blown Out of Porportion

This whole V710 thing is blown out of porportion. As an owner of a V710 (not with Verizon), I like the phone which is the first Motorola phone I've actually liked. I don't mind the fact personally that I can't send files via Bluetooth, but I KNEW THAT BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. Most people I talk to at a store I work at don't really seem to want the Bluetooth for more than handsfree purposes.

There are return policies which allow you to return the phone if you don't like it. So why didn't these people return it? Verizon didn't lie about it ... it has Bluetooth! I didn't see anywhere they advertised you can do file transfers and such with it.

I wish they hadn't locked it down like they did, but they didn't do anything illegal ... people just d...

The problem was that on some of the v710 boxes they claimed it had an OBEX profile and that you COULD do file transfers and such.

That's what really hurt... also why be so greedy as to lock down a phone? Is the negative publicity and crippling your...

Getting out w/o paying ETF again!!!

As much as this may have little effect on Verizon, I feel for agents and reps who might get charge backs from this...
In the article it says that the phones must have been activated prior to Jan 05, in this case even if the customer does opt out of their contract the agent will not receive a charge back, the phone must be active for 180 days to not receive a charge b...

Get a clue

For all of the posts here slamming VZW for misleading customers...got what they deserved...hope this teaches a lesson...whatever, please show me how and when VZW was misleading or how VZW lied about the v710's capabilities...if any of you can show me one example that does not involve you or the customer making a dumb a** assumption about it's ability, then we'll talk...the fact that VZW reaches a settlement simply means that the legal costs outweighed finding a middle ground and nothing more...or if at any time VZW is admitting to wrongdoing as part of this settlement, please show me...again, no assumptions please!
Why do you rant without knowing the facts or reading other posts? VZW and BestBuy and Radio Shack all advertised that the phone will conect and transfer contacts and pictures via Bluetooth. For 3 months after I bought my phone, I was told by VZW tec...

Has this been done before?

In my short experience in wireless, I have never seen anything like this before over a phone. Were there phones in the past that carriers let people out of their contract for prior to the 710?
im sure there were some sort of issues in the past though in my ten years dong this i cant think of one that was as screwed up as this. i mean actually lying to people bold faced??!!! thats weak. I mean i know vzw is pissed they are #2 now and all but...
