Verizon Offers Settlement To V710 Owners

This is a great message to VZW even though is will have almost zero financial impact to them. Most of the returns/cancelations/ect from the v710 case will be us enthusiasts/teckies. VZW should have been given a multi-million or even a billion dollar fine for its repeated abuse of its customers through deceptive marketing and outright lies. If anyone ever read the interview floating around the internet with the VZW executive about the handicapping of the V710 would realize their arrogance. VZW is the Frankenstein child of Ma Bell. Remember when you couldn’t actually OWN a telephone (land line); you could only RENT one from them? and Extra Extensions were ILLEGAL? The apple does not fall far from the tree.

Yeah I wonder if anyone out there can give me some insight on when will VerizonWireless respond back to customers who submitted claims.

In an effort to keep customers satisfied, is this what it really takes?
Does anyone read return policies anymore, read a user manual, or do some basic research on what they buy any more?
I bought a Motorola 710 from Verizon when it first came out about a year ago. I had a basic understanding of what bluetooth was, but what the selling point to me on the phone was, that it allowed me to use a handsfree headset without wires. I plan on keeping my phone and not cancelling like many people will do. So, for those of you who feel you have been duped by your own ignorance, or even poor consumership...go ahead and cancel, get a credit...and move on.

I have been calling customer service and the Verizon Wireless store about this. Everyone I talked to knows nothing about it. How do I go about trading in my phone?? Thanks for your help.

So, I think I qualify for the settlement as I bought my v710 when it was first released from Radio Shack. However, I'm not sure about one thing. First, under Section A of the claim form it says:

"2. I activated Verizon Wireless Cellular Service for a Motorola V710 cellular telephone on or before January 31, 2005; and"

Does this mean new activation or does it include equipment changeovers? I had Verizon before this but switched phones over to the V710. I read the settlement document and it contains similar verbage so I'm not sure.

This whole V710 thing is blown out of porportion. As an owner of a V710 (not with Verizon), I like the phone which is the first Motorola phone I've actually liked. I don't mind the fact personally that I can't send files via Bluetooth, but I KNEW THAT BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. Most people I talk to at a store I work at don't really seem to want the Bluetooth for more than handsfree purposes.

There are return policies which allow you to return the phone if you don't like it. So why didn't these people return it? Verizon didn't lie about it ... it has Bluetooth! I didn't see anywhere they advertised you can do file transfers and such with it.

As much as this may have little effect on Verizon, I feel for agents and reps who might get charge backs from this...

If I own a V710 but was not involved in the lawsuit, am I still eligable for the refunds etc? Thank you

For all of the posts here slamming VZW for misleading customers...got what they deserved...hope this teaches a lesson...whatever, please show me how and when VZW was misleading or how VZW lied about the v710's capabilities...if any of you can show me one example that does not involve you or the customer making a dumb a** assumption about it's ability, then we'll talk...the fact that VZW reaches a settlement simply means that the legal costs outweighed finding a middle ground and nothing more...or if at any time VZW is admitting to wrongdoing as part of this settlement, please show me...again, no assumptions please!

In my short experience in wireless, I have never seen anything like this before over a phone. Were there phones in the past that carriers let people out of their contract for prior to the 710?
