AT&T Lollipop 5.0 - Video Exposure flaw

I recently got the S5 lollipop update from At&t (April 2015) and found the video recording exposure metering seems locked into matrix metering, even if its set for Spot or Center-weighted in the camera app.

Still photo's respect the metering, but video takes the whole frame's brightness (ie: brighter white background) into account and leaves the foreground subject in shadow.

I've compared the SAME SCENE (college room with large whiteboard in background) from the same camera with KitKat (4.4.2 at the time) and the exposure is clearly worse under lollipop.

I know this is technical and nit-picky to most users, but its very disappointing. Especially given how long AT&T takes to roll out updates to the S5, I'm not expecting them to EV...

Android 5.0 is not yet an available update...

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update is not yet available on my country for Samsung Galaxy S5. If I use Odin in updating my phone using other country's baseband version, is my phone then considered rooted and have violated my carrier's policy? 👀 👀 👀

Battery life specs

Where do you guys get your battery life specs from? I'm looking at the Galaxy S 5 GSM model here, it says Talk: 21 hours max. (1260 minutes) , Standby: 390 hours max. (16.3 days)

Looking at T-Mobile's website,

http://support.t-mobile.com/community/phones-tablets ... »

It says Talk is 29 hours, and standby only 280. Why do you think there would be such a large discrepancy there ? Just curious.
try going into settings and look for Battery.

It should list out which apps use the most out of your phone.

not sure if that will help

Battery Life: Note3 vs. Galaxy S5???

Can anyone who has the S5 and experience with the Note 3 please comment on which phone has the superior battery life?

I understand the difference in mAh between the phones, but what about real-world function?

I'm trying to make a decision between the two and would like to go with the device with more battery life.

BTW, I am not at all happy that Samsung is pushing the 16GB variants on the consumer and not offering larger 32, 64 or 128GB. So dissapointing.

Thanks!

Menu Button on the SG S5

In the review it says " There's a capacitive Menu button on the left and a capacitive Back button on the right."

I thought the SG S5 had a multi tasking button instead of a Menu button. Am i right or wrong?
There is still a menu button, you just have to long press the left button that's by the home button.
Hope this helps.

Pretty much explains why Samsung copied Apple

After a week with this phone, it's pretty embarrassing. I have no idea by what metric this phone is considered the "Pinnacle of Design for Samsung" - for one, it's kind of like saying "The pinnacle of music from Canada" , and secondly, Samsung as produced some totally-not-terrible designs in the past (Galaxy Nexus, anyone?)

Just about any competing phone- the Motorola X, the Nexus 5, the HTC One- all of them are leagues better in terms of feel, solidity, and hell- aesthetics (subjective, but c'mon.)

Special points for:
-The poor imitation of the beautiful low-poly background used by Google/Motorola that Samsung is using.
-The totally arbitrary colors of the settings icons that don't seem to correspond with anything
-The fingerp...

So I assume you are a fanboy and just hate anything that a lot of people like. 16GB for apps is a lot of apps. The SD card support is because of Google. Lag? What Lag?

I'm pretty much going to stay away from debating you for the simple reason I haven't had much time to play around with my S5 due to being extremely busy. I will, however, point out that two of my freinds that were iphone users for the last five years,...

For once I actually agree with this fool lol. I never thought I'd see the day.

Oh and blue you forgot about the crappy speakers, ugly design and cheap build quality although I think you covered that when you mentioned aesthetics

I chose the HTC...

Don't know how or why Samsung would want to copy Apple...Samsung and Android have far, far more market share and sales than does Apple.

Love It!!!

In all the 27 years I've been using cellphones, the evolving technology in the last six years has caused me whiplash. Just as you purchase a phone, it seems to be outdated in six months. Nothing short of the PC era.

I have always contended that rather than concentrating and exhausting all energy on non-mechanical hardware, one must use their money wisely(within their means) to purchase the most advanced device they can to prolong longevity potential.

While Samsung has held back incorporating a metal fabrication in its hardware, it has been offering a very solid experience for adapting to forever changing trends or technology.

I have owned the S3 with hardly any issues with the exception of having to replace the battery two months...

Not disappointed in the Galaxy S5. Its a fine device but I still prefer the HTC ONE.
Based on your long response i'm left with trying to decide one of two things. You work for Samsung, or you have impossibly low standards. Samsung products are crap, plain and simple. Cheap, plastic, camera is absolutely atrocious, etc etc. Had the S4 ...

Menu or Multi Tasking button?

No, you're right. The actual capacitive button is a multi tasking button, but if you long press it, its still a menu button. Either way it might have just been a mental slip by the reviewer.
