Why 850?

Why did Cingular choose 850 as their band? All the nice phones such as the ones based out of Europe use the 900/1800/1900 bands. I think Cingular really messed up on this one.

They didn't choose 850. It's what the government made available.

The government also made 1900 available, but there are a limited number of licenses available in each band, for each area of the country. Nearly every license is owned by somebody, so...
