Me too. If I'm paying upwards of $600 for a top of the line smartphone, I will unlock it if I want to. Obviously there are ALREADY consequences in place for doing this and leaving your carrier, which for most people is more than they can afford all at once. Imagine if they tried this with other products.. like say, a Car. Sure, you can buy the car, but you can ONLY get it serviced at this place and this place, even after the warranty is over. Seems pretty stupid and idiotic right? Exactly the way it seems to me with cellular phones. These people are jokers if they even think this will stop an individual from unlocking the device.

Look - If you know how to Root a phone, and have your own Roms, you can Re-lock the device, I have done i...

Which is why he's saying it....if he meant it, he would introduce legislation, the fact that he doesn't means that it's just lip service.

I don't necessarily believe that. It was just a response to a petition. There are thousands of petitions that people create. The fact that it was commented on by the FCC and the President is a great thing. And the FCC chair said he is going to see what he can do. As far as bringing legislation, congress can't even pass legislation that we need to keep the country running functionally. Why would they vote on this now, when the telecoms are lining their pockets to vote against it? They are useless.

They apparently had time to dick around with laws like this a couple months ago when they first made it illegal to unlock your own phone. Though I suppose there's little profit to be made from doing what is right for the consumer....

although i disagree with the law to begin with and this petition is good news, i stil wonder how in the world would the law be enforced anyways?
