So, they have done the right thing and are not hiding the phone cost in the service charges. What do they want? A cookie?

Tmo is like escort that won't kiss on the lips because they've drawn some arbitrary moral line that no one cares about while she is getting Donkey Punched.

I care about it, and I'd give them a couple cookies...

I don't want to see TMO "fail" per say. .. Diversity creates competition and the consumer wins!

Just saying, TMO isn't for me but, I'm glad that you and others have the choice and their presence keeps Sprint, VZW and AT&T honest and on their toes!

I absolutely understand and respect that response. I'm curious to see where the industry will be in like 5 years

If we are lucky we will have at least 3 major national post paid carriers in five years but I do see prepaid blowing up.

Boost and Virgin have been quite profitable for Sprint as in

- minimal or no subsidies extended to the subscriber for equipment.
- all services are paid for in advance (no dough no phone)
- little to no financial portfolio risk for bad debt write offs

I do not see myself going prepaid myself buy again I am thrilled to see diversity in the market.

Keep your eye on Sprint this SoftBank think is going to make things interesting to watch from the sidelines...

The sad thing is the number of people who are so dense that they don't realize this is going on. They really do think their iPhone 5 cost $200 and that the carriers are just big meanies for sticking them with a 2 year contract. The masking of the true cost of a phone reminds me of the income tax system and the way the cost is masked by the withholding process. If people (the productive people anyway) actually had to write a check every April for what they are really paying there's no way in hell the government would get away with increasing the rates. Since it's masked, people don't really notice since they really have no idea what they are paying anyway.

while i understand your cynicism, i think heaping scorn on a company that's taking strides to offer a more transparent service is a bit over the top.

i don't think they need a cookie per say, but a move like this certainty doesn't warrant a shot to the face.

you know what kind of shot i'm referring to.
ya, i went there.

Not sure how transparent they truly are? Seeing most of us get phones more often then every two years, so you're basically in the end being subsidized, and even so. If you're paying outright for a phone, who are they making you sign a 2 year contract?? Makes no sense. Its up to their customer service and quality of service to keep you as a cuastomer, not a contract without subsidy.

It does make sence. If you want to make the monthly payments on the device, then that is why the 2 year contract would be required. If you just want to pay full price up front, no contract is required. With the installment plan, t-mobile is technically giving you a loan for the cost of the phone and you are paying it off - the reason for the contract.

Let me tell you - NO MATTER WHAT PHONE YOU CHOSE, the value plan, always, always, every single time, ALWAYS comes out to be less expensive in the end. Always.

You still need to sign a two year agreement, Even if I bring my own device. As lifted from TMO's website.

Unlimited Value—Talk + Text

This plan includes:
Unlimited nationwide calling
Unlimited domestic messages (text, picture, and video)
Two-year agreement
Unlimited T-Mobile to T-Mobile calling
Unlimited Nights and Weekends

I repeat you have to be an idiot to sign a contract, with no subsidy or even loan on a phone.

Sorry I was not clear - for a BRAND NEW account, yes, you would still require a 2 year contract. If you already have an existing account, and pay full price or bring your own, no contract is required.

The reason for the 2 year contract is becuase this is not a prepaid line of service, the customer is provided with all the perks of a full postpaid account for a very low price. (Minus subsidized handset)

Makes no sense still and is wrong. There is no reason to sign and one has to be a fool to do so. If this was "the european model" you wouldn't be signing nothing in situations like this. TMO is grasping at straws.

I completly agree with you, however a comparison of anything that exists in north america to something that exists in europe is moot. The regulations are totally different.

Simply sounds like the T-Mobile option is just not for you.

Mr. Tofuchong

It has come to our attention that you've recently been engaged in the act of "Feeding the Troll". This violates the code of common sense and waste your valuable time sir not to mention the unnecessary frustration that is self imposed on oneself by this futile endeavor

Fortunately, in this case, you engaged a non-malicious troll. This individual simply suffers from only being exposed to MINIMAL wireless experience but has delusionaly expanded this limited experience into false wealth of knowledge (MANY users on phonescoop suffer from this) The symptoms are boisterous arrogance, followed embarassm when called out, then denial and finally rage.

I do aknowledge the irony of by myself responding to you publicly in this ...

Rob,
Logically discussion is not feeding trolls, disagreement is not feeding the troll. Tofuchong, nor myself are trolling. If PS and others only permitted agreeing to everything, it would be boring. This topic is about what TMO is going and how they're going about it. And nor will I tell you nor others not to post their feelings here.

Good Day to You,
Michael P.

Satire my friend.. Just a flowery worded jab at an anonymous poster in this forum.

You make intelligent arguments unlike many others on this Site but it boils down to satire not specific to you but more towards the mentality of the usual poster..

That very well maybe true, and I can see where it would be for some. I'm not a fan of contracts, or even subsidized devices. But as an option for others, yes,

Its an unfortunate state of being with carriers being on different mobile technologies and to a lessor and radios causes this problems. I do understand there's strong opposition to government interference and in many causes, its true. But, if the government in the past set standards and strong portability standards this would have been a far less of a problem. There is no reason why our two major and several regional cdma carriers won't allow movement of each others devices.
