Music phone designation?

Ok, so you slap on a regular headphone jack and an FM transmitter, along with a little scroll wheel, and you get to call your phone a music phone? I don't see why this phone can be labled a music phone, but new MP3 capable phones (Sanyo 5600, Samsung P777/A800) don't get this much hype. So far, I see nothing very special in this design, other than the nice addition of a scroll wheel and FM transmitter. If it's priced anything like the V3 Razr, I'll take my A800
it's designated as a music phone because its primary focus (other than phone calls of course) is on music. There's no camera, no bluetooth, no e-mail, no QWERTY, none of the stuff that typically comes with other MP3 playing phones. The P777 for exam...

It's music phone because you'll be able to buy and download music from the carrier. You'll also be able to listen to music on demand.

Hmmm...wonder where Kyocera copied THIER slider from.....could it be SIEMENS???? Check the data, Kyo's SE44 was approved Aug. '03 whereas Siemens' SL55 was given the OK on Apr. 2nd of '03. Kyo's slider may have gotten out there more, but it sure was...

Well, if thats the case, you may want to find out who created the first clamshell phone. Then come back and call everyone else a copycat. The majority of everything in existance is an improvement of someone else's idea, ie: the car, TV, audio, etc.

I honestly think it's the first phone PERIOD to include an FM transmitter. Course don't quote me until someone confirms, but I've not heard of any others.

When is verizon getting this phone?

I need a new phone, so i was wondering if I should wait on purchasing a new phone. Should I expect it this x-mas or sooner?

GSM????

are they going to make a version of this phone for the GSM network?
My guess would be since this phone is for EV-DO they might wait untill WCDMA is released throughout the U.S. Just my guess. I don't think they will leave out GSM. It would bring in far more revenue. Being a worldwide medium and all.

Amp'd Mobile Phone

Hey everyone, I just noticed this phone and realized that a very similar version (with Push to Talk) that is going to be released on Amp'd Mobile. Amp'd is shooting to launch Q3. This looks very exciting for Amp'd (and probably Verizon).

All BREW apps

Perhaps the best thing is that its supposed to have access to all BREW applications.
forgive my ignorance, but what is a BREW application?

And because it's BREW, will subscribers only be able to download music from Get it Now? I sure hope not.

Is this the iTunes Phone?

😳

Is this the much-vaunted, highly-anticipated iTunes phone? Supposedly it was due soon, with a last-minute disappearing act at CeBIT.

Hmmm...
No, CDMA phones won't support iTunes. The "iTunes" phone doesn't exist. Moto phones will have an iTunes application on them, so there will be many iTunes enabled phones shortly.

Model Number Confusion

It seems that in most cases you can tell what brand a phone is just by looking at the model number, or even just the first letter in most cases (i.e. T=Sony Ericsson, V=Motorola, No Letter=Nokia, E=Samsung, etc.) but this model number is a little deceptive. If someone told me they were getting the new E725, I would be expecting a Samsung GSM flip. Maybe they should have picked a different letter, like B or Q. Just a thought...
if only the manufacturers would use some, ANY, logic to assign model numbers to their phones. it's something people in the industry can often be heard complaining about. different manufacturers will sometimes give phones similar or even the same model...

Back light

Ok, so I was looking at the thumbnail pictures in the article and something caught my eye. Green back light? I hope that is just something that is on the prototype.

Eric or Rich, any word on this?

Slider for Moto!

😳 So moto now has a slider, but I don't find it as sleek and sturdy looking as some of the other sliders out there, it looks like it's going to come apart, just my thoughts about it.

Its CDMA. Its got evdo. Its a slider. I really wonder if this is the motorola phone Ampd was talking bout to release. It seems like it. A new music phone and teen/young adult-craving features.

Sprint?

So, is the general consensus stating that this "WILL NOT be for SprintPCS"? Your thoughts... 😎
not likely. rich mentions the music player is a BREW application and then mentions BREW again. Sprint doesn't support BREW, but instead uses Java. So it's highly unlikely, a phone that is built using brew would come out on sprint. currently sprint's m...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that "Amp'd" will get this phone. It seems sporty and appears to target the market they're after.

uber thick! 😲 It's hard to believe that this will be for Verizon or Sprint, it's too good and fancy. Like someone in another post stated, maybe it'll be for Amp'd, sounds more believable.

Launch Date

By now, everyone knows it is supposed to be out Q2 of 2005. If it is coming from Verizon, we should see it Q1 of 2006. They are notoriously slow on releases. Plus this phone looks fancy for Verizon. (I wonder if any VZW execs read this stuff and realize how may people are disappointed with their new product releases)
