ICS Upgrade

Hello,

My understanding as of last week was TMobile was pushing out the ICS release for this phone but I haven't seen the alert show up on my device.

Has anyone gotten the ICS update? If so, how is it working for you?
I was told earlier that there were issues by TMobile reps but those seem to be resolved with subsequent patches. I called into TMobile today for a different issue and was advised by the rep that I definitely need to update to ICS. Previous responses i...

Protective Film

Does anyone have a protective film on their device, and if so, which brand? I had my device waterproofed (Liquipel) and they also applied Gadget Filmz to the screen but less than a week after getting it back two air bubbles have appeared thus I am looking for an alternative though I was sent a replacement by the company but the application process looks like too much work.

What to do about Carrier IQ?

Hello,

So I recall there being a brouhaha in the tech world earlier this year about Carrier IQ but in all the articles, blog posts, etc. I do not recall what the final word was on the issue and what, if anything, device owners can do.

I just got a new smartphone and downloaded an app which detected Carrier IQ was on my phone. What can I do about this and should I worry about it?

New S II owner...should I be upset about the S III?

So my antique flip Nokia died a slow death earlier this spring leaving me no choice but to get a new device immediately and to keep me from jumping ship TMobile retention gave me a great deal on the SII. I am more than a little bummed 👿 👿 👿 to see an "upgrade" to my brand new phone coming out so soon after getting the S II in my hands.

That said, after reading the early reviews and looking at some of the SII vs. SIII comparisons I am not so sure I should be upset. And since my carrier is TMobile, the carrier that tends to get things super late and/or last it very well could be the same time this year (SII launched for TMobile Oct. 14, 2011) before this phone hits TMobile's network. So what do you think fo ...

Wow...quite forum.
I don't have either of these phones, but i do know the SII is a good device! It is worth having it for a copuple years and seeing what comes out in 2014, i will probaly get the same device since there is no problem with it and it is cheaper since it i...

I'm in the same boat pretty much but coming from a BlackBerry 9700. Despite the release of the new S3, I still love this phone. It's not ready for the bargain bin and with ICS being released, it feels and runs like a new phone despite how long it's be...

Bad timing?

I have to admit that I'm a little surprised that they would be willing to roll out ICS before the S3 comes out. I don't know that it would hurt sales all that much, but it certainly won't help.
not supplying ICS to the GSII would have been a big mistake. That is a very new phone, and the customers expect updates to it. Not releasing ICS would have brought their device support into question, not something you want to do when you are releasi...

plus with the s2 currently $230 at tmo and the s3 coming out @ $199 the price for the s2 will drop because there people who will want to save $$ and they'll get the s2,

Push? Since when was kies OTA?

The link to T-Mobile says the update is available via KIES, their desktop sync software suite.

OTA = Push = NOT Kies

Good 'ol phonescoop reporting there.
Please check http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-3029.

You will find:

""It was announced on June 1, that beginning June 11, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) will be available for the Samsung Galaxy S II via Kies only.""

T-Mo the first to get ICS on it's Galaxy S II's?

Or did AT&T get theirs already?
Nope, T-Mobile is first. Only ICS phones AT&T sells directly now is the HTC Vivid and HTC One X.

NO Otterbox Case for T-Moble Galaxy S II

So T-Mobile users are being screwed all around. I talked to a rep at Otterbox last night and it seems that the present decision has been to not make a case for this version of the device. They say that Samsung makes different sizes of the same device for each carrier and since they have made an Otterbox case for the AT&T version and the International version that is the end 👿.

Given that this is such a hot selling device regardless of carrier I think that is a grossly unfair decision and am wondering if maybe the thought back in the fall before the device's roll out was that the AT&T/T-Mobile merger would go through and they would only have to make one version of the Otterbox case for the U.S. market.

I'm pretty pissed...

Check out this you tube link. It gives a review on a pretty solid case made by Ballistic. I'm in the same situation as you as I also wanted an Otterbox case....

Case for T-Mobile G S II

Anyone have any experience with or opinion of Ballistic cases? Otterbox is of course the gold standard but it seems that have decided to leave T-Mobile G S II owners out in the cold by not making an Otterbox for the T-Mobile version (WTF?!?!?!?) 👿.
I tried Ballistic and it was good.
But Otterbox is the best in my opinion.

Does anyone know if it will get the upgrade to 4.0 ICS in the second quarter when a lot of other phones are expecting to get it?
Reports were that it was supposed to get it in Q1 but being that March is upon us I guess Q2 is more realistic.

Seeking suggestions for tricking out the G S II

For all who have had this phone for awhile... What are the top things you would recommend to get (apps, accessories, etc.,) to trick out this device?
Also, can anyone recommend a top quality memory card? I am going to try to upgrade to the full 32MB.

BTW, what do class numbers mean when referring to memory cards?

Get it now or wait?

After being talked out of getting a BB I started to investigate this phone. For those familiar with the Android platform, should I get the phone now or wait until the ICS update happens (latest report is Q1 of 2012)?

I know with other platforms OS updates can be challenging to say the least and would prefer not to go through the agony but my present device is dying quickly.
I have phone and it is very good. You should get phone or you could also wait for ICS... I think that the benefit of waiting would be a price drop.

WCDMA bands

Phone scoop for this phone shows WCDMA bands 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 as for HTC's Amaze 4G. The T-Mo web site does not indicate the 850 and 1900 MHz bands which are AT&T bands. So I wonder where Phonescoop gets its info and what data bands are really in this phone.
Both the HTC amaze and Tmobile gs2 have quad band 3g. Their boxes also show it.
