😳 And which one should cingular if they wanted to go after?! Sprint or Nextel? Who gives them the bigger customer technological boost and base?

Cingular has just spent the last 6 years getting all their networks under the same technology. I doubt they would even want to have to do that again. So I wouldn't expect to see Cingular even touch this deal.

But, since this is all hypothetical, it would be better for Cingular to go after Nextel since A) it would give them the business edge and B) Nextel is looking to newer technology than their current iDEN network. So now would be the time to get in their since they're planning on replacing their network anyway. Even though Nextel has a smaller customer base, it would help Cingular in the long run since like I said, they would have the edge with business customers.

If Cingular was going to do something else why wouldn't it look to merger/buy TMobile? Both are already GSM so there's much less of a network issue there.

They you would have a real CDMA vs GSM battle. As a TMobile customer I'm not looking to be come a Cingular customer but again it seems to make more sense.

What T-Mobile has that Cingular doesn't is worldwide coverage. I doubt T-Mobile's parent company would even entertain bids for their US presence.

Believe me I know (having just come back from 2 weeks in Europe) and that's why I said merger/buy as opossed to a takeover like you had with ATTWS. The advantage that Cingular brings to the table is a larger/greater coverage map in this country, it's use of GSM 850 and also UMTS before TMobile 2007 plans.

Not lobbying for it to happen just don't see the rationale for Cingular to go after Nextel. Yes they need to dump iDen but CDMA seems like the better option for them.

yeah, it's true that it would be better for cingular to takes nextel than sprint but I think VZW would take both.
Cingular has just spent millions of dollars for buying ATTW, I don't think they would spend even more for nextel.
And it's also true that Nextel want to replace their current network but GSM is not the appropiate network. They are thinking on a CDMA network, that's why they want to have a merger with sprint.
