Mozilla Wants to Offer Cross Platform HTML5-Based Apps

Mozilla today announced that it has opened the Mozilla Marketplace for app submissions. Mozilla is hoping that developers will write applications based on open web technologies such as HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS that will work across devices and platforms via the browser. Mozilla is providing APIs for developers to create such apps and is submitting the APIs to the W3C for standardization. Mozilla envisions a future where apps, content, and services are tied to a user, not the platform or device that they use. Mozilla hopes to launch the Mozilla Marketplace to consumers later this year with games, media, music, productivity, and other apps/content.
