Twitter today announced new updates for its Android and iOS applications. Both platforms regain the "swipe to x" shortcut for replying to tweets or DMs. The update also makes it easier to find other Twitter users based on their phone number or email address. Changes specific to iOS include: the ability to copy and paste the text of tweets or profiles; better link sharing features; more press-and-hold actions for links; adds back the ability to mark all DMs as read; and refreshes the DM user interface. The key feature added to Twitter for Android devices is support for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, as well as the ability to run on the Kindle and Nook ereaders from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, respectively. The app updates are available in the Android Market and iPhone App Store.

Runs much smoother on ICS now

The app used to a bit laggy on my Galaxy Nexus, but it runs very smoothly now. Thank god.

I haven't tried the iOS update on my iPad yet, but I'm looking forward to getting the copy/paste functionality
