Verizon Wireless announced the recent launch of a new Store Trade-In program. The program lets Verizon Wireless customers bring an old cell phone to the store and trade it in for a gift card. Verizon says its on-site staff will make a quick assessment of the device's value, which will be based on the make, model, and condition. Verizon said certain models in good condition may fetch up to $300. The gift card can then be redeemed immediately for purchases of new phones, tablets, or other devices. The value of the gift card can also be applied to the customer's monthly bill. Verizon is encouraging its customers to trade in old devices so that they may be recycled or disposed of properly.

300$ to recycle a phone?

More like 300$ to resell a phone.
I don't think they are going to give 300$ to take anything apart and dispose of it.
More like resell it for a much greater value
I seems to be an in-store gift card and must be used in the Verizon Store. I may be wrong. If not US Cellulars trade in program give a Check that can be deposited in a bank and used for anything and you don't need to be a customer to use it.

Iphone 4s still in the box. I guarantee.
