Hands-On with the Huawei Pinnacle

The Huawei Pinnacle for MetroPCS (very similar to the Pillar for Cricket) is a small, basic CDMA messaging phone, in the style of a BlackBerry. Check out our hands-on impressions.

Like many BlackBerrys, the keyboard is cramped, but surprisingly usable. In fact, the whole feel of the device is surprisingly high-quality for such an affordable phone from a smaller manufacturer. It feels nice, thanks to a compact body, smooth lines, and a soft-touch finish on the back. It's also absolutely feather-light, a key advantage of a smaller-screen phone these days.

The features are basic, and this isn't a smartphone, but as feature phones go, the software is decent. It's responsive, and a few touches go above an beyond, like a main menu you can re-arrange any way you like, and a built-in weather function. The camera / camcorder interface is also nice, with a convenient, easy-to-use options bar across the bottom of the screen to quickly change camera settings.
