Speaking at a conference in San Francisco on Monday, Sprint Chief Technology Officer Stephen Bye reaffirmed the carrier's commitment to its unlimited data offering. Bye noted that there's definitely a cost to Sprint to keep unlimited data available, and the company regularly challenges its engineers to streamline operations. Bye believes unlimited data is a market differentiator, however, as many of its competitors have moved to tiered pricing structures. Sprint recently put a 5GB cap on the amount of data that mobile hotspot customers can use, but for now its smartphone plans offer unlimited data.

Unlimited Data for Smartphones... Makes Complete Sense

I simply cannot wrap my mind around as to why someone would invest into an advanced device and not go with the carrier with unlimited data other than geographic coverage limitations. But if you can get Sprint, then get it.

A two Gigabyte cap? Are you serious AT&T, VZW & TMo , what can you do with that?

VZW promotes on their ads an LG Phone that comes preloaded with Netflix (nevermind that its a free app for most advanced Android devices) the standard movie is 750 mbs to 1.25 gbs two of those and you're through for the month or pay the upcharge of $10 / gb. Same rate for AT&T and Tmo will throttle you back to a stoneage speed of 2G until the end of your cycle.

People focus far too much on the COST of the device at point of sale "...

for now...

With the network in the shape it is limiting data would kill sprint. They will limit data once they reach the levels of speed that the competition has.
Sprint's network is capable of handling unlimited data just fine. They have the provisions to increase bandwidth capacity if needed.

If Sprint's unlimited is killed off, it will not be due to network issues.
