Republicans from the House Energy and Commerce Committee have submitted a letter to the Federal Communications Commission asking why the agency, along with the Department fo Justice, is frowning on AT&T's proposed acquisition of T-Mobile. "It is clear that this is a complex transaction and it is important that government officials reserve judgment until all of the facts have come to light," the letter said. The lawmakers have asked for a bipartisan meeting to be held within two weeks to discuss the acquisition. Specifically, they want to know why the DoJ and FCC doubt the merger's benefits and whether the agencies considered the impact on jobs and economic growth. The DoJ sued to block the merger on August 31. The FCC has yet to render a final verdict on the acquisition.

Should This Come as a Surprise?

AT&T has given more in the way of political contributions to REPUBLICAN politicians who are anti-environment, anti-medicare, anti-social security, anti-women's rights, anti-workers rights, and anti-consumers rights than ALL THE OTHER CELLULAR CARRIERS COMBINED!!!
is that because AT&T can afford to splash out more money or because all other carriers care more about the enviroment, medicare, social security, women, workers and consumers...

Create New AT&T Jobs?!?!

Heck no they wouldn't be creating more jobs! As it is their call centers are in India and Canada! AT&T is a horrible multi joint venture that for YEARS has screwed people! Employees & Customers! Hey FCC, wake up! Don't you remember back in the 80's when you split up AT&T?!?! After 5 years working form them and 10 years having their cell service I left, because of their Anti-American business practices! No offense Ralph Dela Vega, this isn't Cuba. American business, American JOBS!
It is actually going to cause a loss of jobs, people in the Tmo call center where I live were told about severance packages and "retirement" when the merger goes thru. So TMo employees (the ones here anyway) are dreading the merger and dont want it t...

You do realize 90% of support lines are out sourced right? ๐Ÿ™„
with all due respect, predicting what a company the size of AT&T will or will not do is this side short of impossible ..

in the current economy and with the focus firmly on creating American jobs in America, if AT&T were to not follow through (at l...

Figures.

Mergers always favor big business interests. Republicans have historically backed this up. With the House Energy Committee made up of mostly all Republicans, I am not at all surprised by this news.

John B.
If both agencies bend to this disgraceful congress I will have lost the last 1/32 ounce of faith I have left in the integrity of the American political system's ability to auto correct this level of corruption.

ATT and TMobile. A merger of "equals"?

AT&T is reportedly pretty bad. TMobile seems to be getting worse. It seems only logical that consumers would be best served by allowing the merger to go forward so they will only have one bad mobile provider to exclude when considering which service to sign up with.

Corrupt politicians gallup to the rescue!! Hooray!!!

ATT Lobbyists obviously busy spreading cash around Washington to get this thing rammed through. I'd like to see the folowing headline "85% of CITIZENS who were against the corporate bailouts DEMAND to know why the federal government objected to & ignored their wishes". Congress, STAY OUT of this & get busy helping the economy and creating jobs. When this merger is done, it will eventually cost tens of thousands of jobs (despite A Fee & Fee's "talking points"). By blocking it, you could say the DoJ is "creating" jobs by not letting them vanish.

It's like Big Corporations have their very own lawmakers on payroll...

๐Ÿคจ

Really, Mr. "Big Corporate" Republicans? Hmmmm. That's just a little more than fishy. Last time I checked, lawmakers were in the legislative branch. Lawsuits are handled in the Judicial branch. Butt out. However, feel free to fix the economic crisis instead of sticking your noses where they don't belong.
