Verizon May Unleash Unleashed In More Markets

Verizon Communications CFO Fran Shammo recently indicated that the company is considering an expansion of its Unleashed prepaid experiment. Unleashed offers unlimited talk, text, and web for $50 per month. Daily rates and per-minute/text rates are available, too, along with separate monthly texting bundles. Right now, Unleashed is being tested in California and Florida, and the tests have proven successful. "The trial has gone very, very well for us," said Shammo. "It didn't cannibalize the base and we actually evaluated our prepaid business and took some share." Unleashed would compete directly with similar prepaid offerings such as those from Virgin Mobile and MetroPCS. Shammo didn't say what markets Verizon is considering for Unleashed, nor when they might launch.
