Layar today announced a new component for its Layar augmented reality browser called Layar Vision. The chief benefit introduced with Layar Vision is that it allows mobile phones to recognize up to 50 different objects, including items such as posters, magazines, and newspapers, and other everyday items. Layar says this will let content creators interact with mobile phone users in new ways. Layar believes that the new object recognition can be paired with new video and audio layers to create a more immersive augmented reality experience for mobile phone users. Layar is pushing out the initial batch of tools developers need to incorporate Layar Vision in beta form in the coming weeks.
