Verizon and Wilson Partner on Cell Boosters

Verizon Wireless has teamed up with Wilson Electronics and the two submitted a proposal to the Federal Communications Commission regarding the design and installation of in-building wireless cell signal boosters. The proposal addresses concerns laid out by the FCC earlier this year regarding cell boosters. Verizon and Wilson believe their proposal will aid in the development and deployment of cell boosters that don't harm nearby wireless networks. They companies created three categories into which they believe boosters should fall: small boosters used by consumers in their homes; larger boosters used in businesses; and carrier-installed boosters using FCC-licensed spectrum. Each category has its own rules for developing and using the boosters. The FCC has not yet made any decisions regarding the use of cell signal boosters.

My Wilson experience

Im an indirect for VZW in Montana so service is hit and miss, and we have been selling Wilson equipment for a couple years now. I gotta say, I really like them and stand behind their products 100%. Their customer service is great as well. I've been on the phone with them several times for customers and I was always impressed. I'm glad to see VZW partnering up with them.

I'm surprised . . .

. . . that a cellular carrier would be helping with this. They typically want to sell you a so called "fempto cell" which routes calls through your internet connection (which you pay for) and allows them to charge additional money per call (which you pay more for) all because they have poor coverage. Gotta love that business model! I had crappy coverage too, but bought a Wilson booster (one time cost, no per minute or data charges) and it completely solved the problem. So the carriers can stick the fempto cells where the electrons never shine! I hope tat Big V doesn't sabotage this freedom.
