Judge Denies Apple Request for Speedy Samsung Trial

The U.S. District Court for Northern California judge overseeing the Apple vs. Samsung patent lawsuit has denied Apple's initial request for an expedited trial. Apple sought to score an earlier trial date in order to help "compress" the overall length of the proceedings. Judge Lucy Koh ruled, "The Court agrees [with Samsung] that Apple has not established substantial harm or prejudice justifying a shortened briefing and hearing schedule for its Motion to Expedite." Further, the judge points out that Apple and Samsung negotiated about the patent and design issues at hand for at least a year and a half, meaning Apple has had plenty of time to consider a course of legal action against Samsung. This is a small setback for Apple, but it probably won't have an impact on the overall decision of the court.
