AT&T Expands Free Wi-Fi to 20 NYC Parks

AT&T announced today that its Wi-Fi hotspot network will be available in 20 parks across New York City this summer, spanning all five boroughs. Wi-Fi will be free for both AT&T customers and non-AT&T customers. AT&T implied that it's offering free Wi-Fi just to do something good for New Yorkers.

New York State has launched COVID Alert NY, its official app enabling the COVID-19 Exposure Notification system developed by Apple and Google. New York is the largest US state to date to launch an app using the system, and joins ten other states that have already launched similar apps: Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wyoming.

The MTA today announced that it has completed deployment of OMNY readers system-wide. This means that all 472 subway stations and 5,800 city buses in New York City now accept fare payment by tapping an NFC-equipped phone or smart device with any standard digital Wallet set up.

T-Mobile has launched enhanced 5G service in New York City that uses three very different frequency bands to provide a unique blend of broad coverage and high speeds, according to a tweet from Neville Ray, the company's President of Technology. The network includes band 71 (600 MHz) for broad 5G coverage, although with speeds only marginally faster than 4G.
