Nokia Maps Will Not Be Part of WP7 Mango

Microsoft spokesperson Greg Sullivan told Phone Scoop that Microsoft will not switch from Bing Maps to Nokia Maps for the Mango release of Windows Phone 7. The companies have already announced that in the future, WP7 handsets will transition away from Bing Maps and will instead use Nokia Maps. Sullivan noted that while both Bing and Nokia Maps rely on Navteq's mapping data, the two companies have more work to do to integrate them fully, and the merged product won't be ready for the Mango release of WP7, which is due this fall. Sullivan implied that the mapping switch may not occur until early 2012, which is when the first Nokia-made WP7 handsets are expected.
