AT&T Fine-Tunes Parental Controls
AT&T today announced some new features for its AT&T Smart Limits for Wireless product. The additional capabilities let parents to block up to 30 numbers (increased from 15), which blocks calls and text messages to/from select people/lines. The revised service now also lets parents manage costs with more granularity. In addition to blocking app downloads and/or purchases, parents can also block calls to 411, which cost money. The software lets parents manage when phones can/can't be used, filter internet content, set browsing usage parameters, and limit downloads such as ringtones, etc.

AT&T plans to cease offering AT&T Smart Limits, a service that allows parents to control their kids' phones, on November 26. Smart Limits will no longer be available after that date.

Microsoft today introduced new tools for parents that can help them manage their kids' use of mobile devices. The Microsoft Launcher for Android phones now includes location history so parents can see their children's last known location with a time stamp.

Verizon Wireless today debuted Verizon Smart Family, a revamped service to help parents keep track of how their kids use their phones. The app allows parents to manage screen time by pausing the internet, to check battery status, and to view texts and calls.

YouTube has updates in store for its YouTube Kids service that will provide parents with more granular control over what their children can find and watch. Beginning immediately, Google's partners will cull together "collections of trusted channels" that range across topics such as music, sports, and arts and crafts so parents can pick and choose which their children are allowed to watch.
