eBay today announced that its PayPal subsidiary has purchased Where, the local discovery mobile application maker. eBay said that local market information has become increasingly important to its business model, and the acquisition of Where will help it reach further into the community level. eBay will first integrate Where into its PayPal mobile platform, which will allow Where/PayPal users to better take advantage of local shopping deals and make payments from their mobile phone. eBay also indicated it will continue to acquire companies and/or services to help it bolster its local offerings. eBay expects the deal to close by the end of the second quarter.
