Google recently updated its Latitude service for the Android and iOS platforms with new features. The latest iteration of Latitude will give users status (Regular, VIP, Guru) each time they check into certain venues. Venues will also be able to create their own status indicators. Users will be able to see a chart of their check-in history and their progress towards specific status goals at each venue. In conjunction with the status earnings, users will be able to unlock savings and/or other incentives at those particular venues. Google trialled its reward system in Austin, but starting on April 7 expanded it across the entire U.S. Some of the participating retailers include American Eagle, Arby's, RadioShack, Quiznos, Macy's, Finish Line and others. Android users will need to upgrade to the latest version of Maps for Android and iPhone users will need to update to the latest version of Latitude. The service is free to use.
