Nokia Takes Majority Ownership of Symbian

Nokia this morning announced a deal to aquire a majority stake in Symbian. The company will purchase the Symbian shares previously held by Psion plc, in exchange for over $173 million, plus $1.56 for each Symbian device sold over the next 2 years. The deal is expected to leave Nokia with a 63.3 percent share of Symbian. The company announced that it will continue "fair and non-discriminatory licensing" of Symbian software to other companies. Symbian software is the basis for Nokia's Series 60, Series 80, and Series 90 platforms and phones.
