AT&T Wireless today announced the immediate nationwide availability of EDGE. The new technology upgrades the company's GSM/GPRS network to provide data speeds three times greater than before. The company also introduced an EDGE PC Card for laptops from Sony Ericsson. The card provides average speeds of 100-130 kbps, peaking at 200 kbps. The company offers an unlimited data plan for $79.99 per month. The service is available immediately to anyone with an EDGE-capable device, throughout the AT&T Wireless network. AT&T already offers one EDGE phone - the Nokia 6200 - and plans to offer the Motorola T725 and Nokia 3200 EDGE phones in coming months.

BRAVO AT&T!!!!!!!!

😁 I would switch from cingular today if i was not in a contract with them in fact if they they don't get busy i will not care about the contract.

WOW!

What a timely announcement by ATTWS. Right before number portability. Very impressive. Now, the only majors in America w/o 3G are Cingular and T-Mobile.

Cost

The big problem I see here is cost--$79.99 a month for unlimited use. Make it $25 and you have a deal. T-Mobile does its unlimited data for $19.99 and it's very popular. There's no way I'm going to blow close to $100 a month (after taxes and such) on mobile net accesss.
The cost may be high but the data speeds are awesome. Twice as fast as T-Mobile. Of course if you aren't a power user then T-Mobile might be the way to go no doubt! 😁
