New Blackberry Adds GSM 850

Cingular and Research In Motion (RIM) this week demonstrated the new BlackBerry 7280™ handheld. The new BlackBerry features a color screen with added 850 MHz support allowing it to operate in new markets on the Cingular network. The GSM 850/1800/1900 phone is otherwise similar to the RIM's current 7210 and 7230 models. Availability was not announced.

T-Mobile Says It Will Start Using 600 MHz Spectrum This Year

"T-Mobile now has the largest swath of unused low-band spectrum in the country," said T-Mobile CEO John Legere about the company's 600 MHz auction winnings. The company successfully won an average of 31 MHz (ranging between 20 MHz and 50 MHz) of the 70 MHz low-band spectrum auctioned off by TV stations and the FCC.

TCL today announced the BlackBerry Motion, a follow-up to the KEYone that drops the keyboard in favor of a larger touch screen. The Motion boasts a 5.5-inch full HD screen that's covered in a nano-diamond coating to prevent scratches.

Samsung today announced the Galaxy S9 and S9+ phones, updates to last year's S8 models. The devices bear a striking resemblance to their predecessors and make only modest changes to the hardware.
