Google today announced the official launch of its own eBook store. Google says that its eBook store is the largest in the world, with more than three million available titles, including modern books for sale, as well as classics available for free. In conjunction with the eBook store launch, Google is offering free ereader applications for both the Android and iOS platforms. The ereader allows smartphone users to browse the store, download and read books. Books can be stored locally on a microSD card, or on Google's servers (accessed wirelessly). The application allows users to select font type and size, line spacing, and day/night reading mode. Books can also be passed from one device to the next, and readers will be able to pick up where they left off. The new store is meant to compete with both Amazon and Apple's ebook offerings.
