Cellular South today announced its plans to build and deploy its own Long Term Evolution (LTE) network by the fourth quarter of 2011. It will use networking equipment from Samsung, in addition to at least two handsets and other mobile devices from Samsung to access and use the LTE network. Cellular South will build the network on 700MHz spectrum that it won in the 2008 auction. Cellular South said it will male use of Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) for voice services on the LTE network. It didn't provide guidance on what sort of data access speeds customers might expect. Earlier this week, Cellular South indicated that it wouldn't participate in Verizon Wireless's LTE licensing program and would instead build its own network and services.
