by Sept, i'm sure WP7 is only a month away, i going to get wp7 instead.
I have the Captivate, and it's a great phone. There have been several homebrewed GPS fixes out there, and the results have overall been positive, so I'm thinking the odds are good that Samsung's fix will improve things.

If you want Windows Phone 7...

You'll purchase an untested, new handset running on completely new software written from the ground up because the alternative phone has a single issue that they're fixing.

Good luck on that one, prepare for countless issues on that WP7 P.O.S.

with a few tweaks the GPS on my captivate works just fine

*#*#1472365#*#* to get to gps menu

SUPL settings.......
Server FQDN Type: AUTO Config
(this is MUCH better than supl.google.com for me)

App settings........
Operation mode: MS based
Accuracy:100
Skyhook: on

That's it for the settings

one more thing

Turn Wifi off before you start an app
that needs gps

I get locks in seconds almost always

Didn't know there was a problem...

I've had my Captivate for a few weeks and have not experienced problems with the GPS. It always seems very quick to get a lock, and I get several satellites while in the middle of my house (not even by a window). I do usually have the wifi on, so maybe that's helping.

Serioually, I have several Garmin products, including an iQue 3600 PDA/GPS, a ForeRunner 201 and a ForeRunner 205 for running. And none of those come close the to performance I'm getting with my Captivate. This phone is amazing!
