Sprint has announced that its first WiMAX handset, the HTC Evo 4G, will also be the first carrier offering to push Android 2.2, or FroYo, to owners. Starting next Tuesday, August 3, Evo 4G owners will begin to receive the over-the-air update. Android 2.2 offers numerous performance improvements, including improved Web browsinng with Flash 10.1 support. The update will also let users voice dial over Bluetooth and install certain applications on the phone's external memory, instead of using the smaller internal memory storage. Sprint also says users can update manually by navigating to the Settings > System Updates menu on their devices.

Oh come on!

What the heck! Come on Google, we've been told for months the Droid was suppose to already have froyo but nooo. I really wish Google and Motorola would stop giving us false information.

I mean, if you have an EVO then it's great news for you, but the rest of us just have to grin and bear it while waiting on more false information for Google and Motorola. Sheesh!
Google released the code. It's upto motorola to decide when to push the update.

If you want Froyo that bad, and can't wait, why not just root the phone and install one of many Froyo ROMs?

XDA has some really good ones to choose from and they are all pretty much as stable as the stock ROMs
Should have Bought an Evo lol 😎

Can't wait to web b-browsinng

What did you type this news post on the awesome HTC Sense keyboard?

Glad to see the Evo getting 2.2 quickly- especially considering the original Droid still doesn't have it officially yet. Hopefully it'll improve its dismal battery life too.

Times are a changing :)

Looks like the tables have turned in this case. With previous updates Sprint has been the last to cook and release their updates to users. I was not looking forward to getting this software anytime soon. What a pleasant surprise! 😁
That's no joke. These are exciting times we are living in. 😎
