House Approves Cell Ban for All Prisoners

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved S. 1749, which makes it illegal for prisoners to have possession of a mobile phone or other other device that can access wireless services. The Senate approved the bill in April. It only needs to be signed by the President to become law. Cell phones are already banned at prisons, but this new law will make it a punishable crime. State governments have also petitioned the federal government to allow for cell phone signal jamming in and near prisons to prevent inmates from communicating with outsiders. CTIA wireless association president and CEO Steve Largent said, "CTIA and the wireless industry are pleased that the House joined the Senate in passing this important piece of legislation which would prohibit the possession or use of cell phones by federal prisoners. We strongly oppose prisoners having access to contraband phones and believe inmates, and anyone who supplies them with a device, should be severely punished." It's not clear when the bill will be signed by the President and enacted into law.

That's B.S.

lol why should they not be able to have a cellphone? I mean there are some reasons for certain people but still.. I don't see the point.
Yea why should be who are incarcerated have the same civil liberties that those who follow the laws have
Are you a liberal loon?
The PURPOSE of having prisons in our society to take personal liberties and freedoms away from people who egregiously violate the laws of society.

The hope is that depriving these individuals of the ability to act independently and exercise decisio...

Are you mentally ill? Do you want Paco the child rapist ...
The point is they have all done things that got them put in prision in the first place. If you are willing to do something to other people that is bad enough to make you spend time in jail then you have to take the punishment. It's that simple. You do ...

important legislation and a big waste of time.

If they are jamming the frequencies around a prison, thedn what good is a cell phone anyway? ... Shouldn't Congress be working on killing the economy some more and not worry about worthless legislation.

In theory...

this should work, but considering the track record the prison system has for keeping anything out... ๐Ÿ™„

I just like the idea that politicians keep trying to sell us the idea that just because there's a law for something, everything will be just fine. And that's why there's no murderers and rapists out there. ๐Ÿ˜• ๐Ÿ™„
